Bumble bee is a lot of fun with his back attack move and double car finshers, plus his speed means you can string attacks for days but he cant take alot of hits
Wheeljack has nice ranged car finish which is great for taking down or jumping onto aerial targets
Sideswipe is like a mini prime, he just beats everything down but his ultimate requires some aiming for maximum damage on multiple targets.
Still learning Grimlock, his demo video shows him as this unstoppable brute but with a hammer an the way he changes forms on final attacks- he's tricky but he's got some super nasty moves.
I'm grinding up gear for him before taking him out
Also he has that badass shield.
Grimlock for his throws, sideswipe simply because he's sideswipe.
bumblebee
sideswipe
wheeljack
grimlock
for me. prime is by far the best with his six tech slots (compared to 4, or 2 for grimlock) you cannot beat his potential damage output. coupled with primes ion blaster and the ability to use hammers theres just no choice.
bumblebee can do some insane things with his slide. its great for racking up points and you can keep combos going for days but he just cant put out enough damage for my liking. the fact that you can essentialy never stop the combo keeps him a cozy second however
sideswipe was super fun to use with his dash special. i loved being able to just keep the pressure on non stop and having a ranged/aimed ult was nice for keeping the damage on a single target but he suffers from a little bit of a damage output problem compared to prime and you cant combo quite as well like you could with bee. while its possible to keep some combos that you couldnt with other characters by virtue of the dash, he just isnt in the same leauge as bee and prime.
now we get to the worse ones...
wheeljack, in theory, has some amazing ranged damage potential with his natuarly high levels of range damage and his wrenches provide ammo however he is pretty fragile once his shield is broken. his vehicle moves give a little bit extra punch sure but its not enough to save him. his ult is essentialy primes with a status infliction that most of the time wont help. the shield skill rarely comes into play as well. his comparitivly low stats as well as those issues keep him low
but grimlock? oh man. grimlock is bad. his ONLY upside is "fun". he is really fun to use, dunking people around and going all godzilla. however his stats are crap and his vehicle mode just messes my whole vibe up when im trying to combo. he should be a absolute melee powerhower but at 99 everything the ONLY stat he has better than prime, is health. thats nothing. this is not even mentioning the crippling 2 tech slots.
And he's my favorite playable character in the game. xP
I use Prime as my go to powerhouse (axe and hammer for my melee, Megatron's fusion cannon and usually some other rifle for his ranged attacks), which is useful to taking out heavy enemies and bosses with pure power while sacrificing speed. It's a fun way to play him.
For Bumblee, I do the exact opposite (the upgraded form of fists and the dark saber sword for his melee, and a rifle and a sub machine gun for his ranged), looking to get a ton of attacks in while sacrificing power. It lets me get in a ton of kills without stopping on regular mooks, but bosses and heavy enemies take a little bit longer. But hit-and-run play is I think how Bee is supposed to be played.
For Sideswipe, I go for a balance between the two (dual swords and a regular sword for melee weapons, flare gun and a rifle for ranged), which means that while I'm not really fast or super powerful, I'm more prepared for anything situation. Neutral play is how I think Sideswipe works best, since he's a jack of all trades type character.
Grimlock is fun but I don't like using him all that often, and Wheeljack is eh. I play Grimlock the same as Optimus, and Wheeljack the same as Sideswipe.
So far my Fav is BumbleBee because of his Combo heavy moves.
1) Optimus - he's a super tank
2) Bumblebee - stringing combos together is fun, but he can't take a hit. His Ultimate is good. His L1 evade suits me better than Sideswipe.
3) Sideswipe
4) Grimlock - having to transform him back after a finisher is still annoying to me. Maybe if they allowed for attacks that combo in robot mode, I wouldn't care. It's like they sort of half stepped their way into letting his Dino mode attack. To me he needs a heavy defense upgrade for his Dino mode, or they need to give him a full attack set in that mode.
I haven't played Wheeljack enough to have an opinion on him yet.
2) Sideswipe. Pretty much a mini Optimus. Teleport dash and the missile barrage abilities are a bit finicky though. Great vehicle speed. My go to guy for the racing challenges.
3) Bumblebee. Sideswipe is the fastest thing on wheels but Bee's the fastest on foot. Poor health but more than makes up for it in foot speed and combo strings. I use him when I want to feel fancy.
4) Wheeljack. A Sideswipe with less power behind his punches and a little less horsepower under the hood. Shield ability doesn't see much use when you're dodging all the time anyway. Ranged stats are the best of the bunch. Give him a heavy machine gun weapon and let him rip.
5) Grimlock. His dino mode breaks the flow of combat for me. I don't think he's meant to be played like the others in combat. I just arm him with the biggest hammer and let him go to town.
