Why? Why can't it work with a keyboard?

On Beach 3 shortcut jump and challenge jump between 2 spike walls are so unobvious - i cant even repeat it properly, i dont even know how i did it?! One time it's ok, next time (the very same distance and press timing) - fail. I didn't see any random in the game, so its not random too. Still, its unclear how to do them right....

It looks a lot like the Rayman games, which is not a bad thing at all!
