CyberLink PowerDVD 15 Ultra

CyberLink PowerDVD 15 Ultra

PowerDVD came with a blu ray player i bought a few years ago
Worked fine for a year, they issued a new patch when the new 'powerDVD __' came out and suddenly it was covered in ads for the upgrade to the new version. Then it stopped working and they 'no longer supported the old version' (no fixes, support). Leaving me with a blu ray player that could no longer play blu rays.

Cyberlink only suport the powerdvd for 2years 1 year after the new one comes out any new blu rays that come out after that they force you to pay for a upgrade

Yep. That is why i no longer support their company.
If you use an old PowerDVD they won't ever patch it but it seems like once you get PowerDVD 10 and higher the newer patches work with it.

I had PowerDVD5 and didn't like it that I was forced to update but on the website it showed that there were patches for PowerDVD10 through 14 all in one file. I ended up buying PowerDVD 14 for 60 dollars. All future patches should cost me half the price. It works fine. I will just have to wait and see how often they remove support and if I want to keep updating.

Yes this is one of the reasons I despise this company. Often even critical bugs/upgrades don't get fixed for free, instead they expect you to just buy an upgraded version.

As you noticed, older versions of PowerDVD can't play new Blu-ray movies. In practise you can't buy PowerDVD, you subscribe to it. Because you need to keep buying every new version, if you actually want to be able to play recent Blu-ray movies.
You only need to buy if you don't have the version 10 or above.

Hahaha! what the hell is this software? just saw a sale on steam for a media player that cost 75bucks, on sale :') And now i see this topic, this is hilarious, there's people actually buying it? This kind of practice should be illegal (and i'm sure it is in many countries).

By the way Daniel, if you ever have this problem again, don't buy any update, there's other ways to read blue-ray disks, and this for free. Or simply screw them back with a sneaky torrent. I don't see why they would be the only ones allowed to play dirty!
Thanks bro I will take your advice if I want to cause problems.

You can without making so, the "screw them" was more of a joke than an actual advice, even though i won't blame anyone doing so with such company policy. You can always try to numerize a blueray and read it with VLC once done, it has always worked fine for me even though it's kind of a pain.

I'm generally not one for tinfoil hat conspiracy theories, but I legitimately do believe that they sabotaged my PowerDVD10 install around the time that version 14 came out.

It had been working fine for years, then suddenly it demanded to be updated before it would play any movies.

After the update, my Blu Ray movies started "blanking out" for a few frames every 30 seconds or so during playback.

Yet my other PDVD10 install on a PC disconnected from the net (thus, no "updates") continues to play them just fine, as does my copy of PDVD14 on the exact same machine that started having problems.

Think I'll pass on PDVD15...
I have PowerDVD14 and I just watched movies last night...

Me too, I'm just worried that when PDVD 16 comes out, my PDVD 14 is going to "update" and mysteriously stop working. =/

well mostly new things dont work in newer versions. sometimes a new bluray could also completely kill your BD Drive (e.g. is somebody hacked the drive keys of that model) and you would need a firmware update to get stuff working again.

So much for buying this then. I really miss my TotalMediaTheatre player. Why did they have to shut down their softtware :/
