Best TMNT Game?
I'm frustrated with all the 'meh' reviews this game is getting! This game is amazing! I don't know what people want from it and honestly, I don't think a lot of people understand excatly what it's ment to be. This is a modern day version of the arcade game. The games you and your friends played at Chuckie Cheese's when you were little? (or the 1986 version) Where you all crowded around the screen and mashed buttons? The game is meant to be played multiplayer Yeah, It's a modern day arcade, so the fact this even has a single player is an after thought. So, say whatever you want about the single player, it's crap and it's meant to be. Ideally, you're playing this game with four friends, but, very well could play this with four strangers, Like an arcade game XD

But it gets deeper than that. Feeding coins into the machine has been replaced with the eating mini game. The arcade games only had two buttons of course, but this is is updated for the modern cabinet, or say a controller. You've got your special moves. and thats where things get interesting. The original arcade game grants you access to one move per turtle, from Leo's spinning attack to Mikey flailing like an idiot. You lose health if you do this but wgaf shredder is going down!! >=(

I digress. The game is modernized, using various mechanics from other games and grants you an open world to roam around in. At the same time the game is clearly a contest to see who can deal the most damage, who can get to the mission location first, etc etc etc. Thats replaced the high score ABC put your name in gimmick. You're not shooting for a score, you're shooting for exp. And lets talk about the EXP system!

So now you get to play your own customizable turtle. The ninjitsu is a useful replacement for pressing jump and attack at the same time. Preforming the special move has been simplified to...oh...pressing two buttons at the same time. :D. You can turn Donnie into a healing machine or Mikey into an insane DPS monster pending on your prefrence and play style. This has replaced the one dude who always ran ahead and grabbed the pizza before everyone else. Or the kid who was always lagging behind because he had a.d.d. and was focused on something else instead of beating the crap out of foot soldiers. You get to equip items and play through to upgrade. It's a nice touch of RPG element to an otherwise surprisingly deep fighter. Did you know the turtles have input commands? Forward, Forward, Attack preforms a dashing attack, half circle attack deals a thusting attack that has piercing (citation needed) and a full circle gives you a spinning heavy attack. With blocking, countering, and parrying, the game gives you a use of abilities and a wide range of crap you can pull out of no where. Baseball Bat attack? Wtf.

The game goes even further than that! The replay ablility is incredible even going so far as to show you different boss battles as you choose harder difficulties. You get better items. You can update your stuff, etc etc, which makes your next play through different, expriementing with different effects.

The Competitve Co-op is a nice touch that makes you want to stick together with your team, and outshine them at the same time. Which of course is the kid whos always got the highest score and he brags about it. But as far as nostalgia and updating an old concept, I think this game is pretty sweet, provided your old enough to remember what it was like to play on arcade machines.

Given that the last game I played of Turtles, was "Out of the Shadows" which barely worked, I may be biased, but I think this is the best turtles game they've produced since Turtles in Time on the Snes!

Well, the game is not perfect in every way and there are some flaws i'd like to be fixed (though it will never be, most likely), but it's sure one hell of a good Ninja Turtles game, i agree.

The combat system, semi-open maps with random quests, exciting boss fights, decent coop experience and some other stuff - it's all like a breath of the fresh air for ninja turtle universe.

TMNT MIM will definitely take it's special place in my heart, forever.

That's actuall a nice touch. Forward forward+light attack it's smth i've discovered on my own (might also be done by pressing forward+attack if you were staying on the ground without a movement), but "half circle" (might be done as "back, forward+attack") and "full circle" attacks are smth new for me. So thanx, now i can do it on purpose, not randomly XD

If you will find any new interesting mechanics like that, throw em in this topic please.

How do you get the "crowding arround the screen" experience when the game doesn't support local multiplayer?

Intentionally designing part of a game to be crap somehow makes it better that that part of the game is crap, how?

Online friends are not the same thing as actual friends. They're somewhere between a friend and a stranger. Usually a lot closer to strangers than friends.

what?! there are secret moves in here?? :0

Did not know that I've just been using the default attacks. I really need to try this out xD

I did a uppercut move with don last night and have no idea how I did it. I pushed Forward+X+A or something and he dashed forward and lifted the staff into the air in a shoryuken type move.

Using a special ability (any special ability I believe) renders you invunerable while you preform it. I.E. Shredder is about to hit you with something nasty? Pop Spin Slash before he connects. You'll come out without a scratch

Well, this one is obvious XD

I'm more interested if there are more not obvious moves like dash or whirlwind attack.

Sadly, game does not provides us with full list of the combos and moves, but, at the same time, it's interesting to find it out via experiments. TMNT OOTS also got some hidden moves which are not listed anywhere in game tutorials (is it a new tendency for a ninja turtle games nowadays?). So, who knows what else is hidden in the dark.

You are right!

It's a legit move to launch enemy into the air!
Requires to press X+A (weak attack+jump).

I think this is the deepest turtle game combat-wise. Also, the voice acting , animation , and boss fights are all top rate. However, the missions do get repetitive and no local co-op really brings it down. Almost as good as Turtles in Time for SNES...so 2nd place in my book is not bad. In my opinion, it is a great turtle game.

ageed. For a bit I thought it was me just not being too picking in my games, if it is fun, then it's fun. I'm glad there are others out there that enjoy this game :D

What I hate are those disarming missions, especially disarming the bombs, but then the bomb guys appear and start throwing them at you...so annoying.

TMNT Arcade > Turtles In Time > Mutants In Manhattan, imo.

It breaks my heart to see that there is no TMNT Mutant Nightmare or TMNT 2003 game in your list, guys.

I played out of shadow on PS3 and it was a really good game
had some problems but they could be ignored.
I heard that it had lots of problems on steam version but ps3 version worked completely fine

Hmm, it works better for me with jump first & then attacking in quick succession[/keyboard] Thanks for the tip!

PS. Try heavy attack instead of light

Confirmed moves:
Forward + forward + light = forward slash
Jump + light attack = Uppercut
Jump + heavy attack = different attacks with each törtly
