You need to "level up". It makes your character stronger and win battles easier. If you can't level up there, go to a place with easier monsters.
The game? It's simple and pleasant, has good story, good music: just right when one is very tired but wants to do some gaming. I bought the second one after playing the first. For me:
too many features and "too busy" can make a game a headache if i'm tired i'd much rather a game be simple and pleasant.
