need help creating a healing mage
Hello..been trying to start this game to meny times now....but allways feels like i make subpar chars that is at best okey...

so was thinking of making a melee focused healing mage, bad idea from start?

this is my starting idea so far:
14co
16cl
16in
16ch
10de
8ag
8cn
12st

8willpower (+3bonus)
5perception

5animal lore
6plant lore

1 TP
9 TW
7 AL

(waiting to but wepon point until i can use 2h)

and main idea is using healing/buffing magics while wacking at enemys with a 2h..bad idea? or is this idea better started from another class?

been trying to start this game for years but allways after some h i end up deleting my char(did not play on steam)

The game is beatable with practically anything, especially on normal, so don't worry too much about having a crap charater. Besides you have the NPCs too. I do think mages are better with real weapons in these games instead of having a staff.

In the topic immediately below this ("Are two-handed weapons...") someone just mentioned that it's possible to make a mage who is better with 2h weapons than a fighter... Although I'm not so sure if it's still worth it, since a mage won't probably have high strength. You can definitely use them if you want to, just like almost anything else except Brawling and Throwing weapons...

Perception, Animal Lore and Plant Lore are pretty worthless. You could put them on a non-mage character if you want to use them, since they don't have to use points on spells.

Buff spells are very good in these games. Well, not all of them, but Attibutio Strength, Fastness of Body, etc. The ones which do useful things instead of boosting your Charisma...

For the concept you want, a healing mage isn't the best choice. Rather you want an Elementalist or a Metamage (depends on whether you prefer summoned Elementals or Skeletons). I find the higher level skeletons a bit better, so here is how I would set up the Metamage:

Attributes:
16(15) CO
12 CL
16 IN
10 CH
10 DE
12 AG
12 CN
12 (13) ST

Advantages/Disadvantages:
Rapid AE-Regeneration (This makes a big difference to how often you can cast)
Cowardly
Strong

Skills
5 Willpower

Spells
2 Fastness of Body
3 Ignafaxus Burst of Flame

2 Skillpoints left over

As I level up, for skills, I would first increase Willpower until it's around 12, pick a 2-handed weapon (probably spears) and max it as I level up. The only other skill I would touch is Sneak, which I would raise to around 8-9 if I want to take Cano's route through the game.

For spells I want: Fastness of Body (16), Attributio Strength (15), Move As the Lightning (15), Corpfrigo Cold Shock (12), Ignifaxus Burst of Flame (12), Balm of Healing (12), Clarum Purum (no more than 2 or 3), Rescindere (no more than 2 or 3, but 0 is fine), Duplicatus Double Vision (maxed), Fandago of Fireflies (maxed), Skeletarius (character level)

Everything else goes to raising attributes:
First off I want to increase AG CN and ST to 14
Then I want to raise CL to around 15
If you want you could increase CH to 12 (there are Silvan Elf Gloves you can get that provide a +3 bonus to CH, and honestly I find 13 is enough)
Finally I would continue increasing ST

For Special Abilities (assuming a spear):
Feint
Precision Strike
Blade Flurry
Fatal Thrust
Offensive Combat I
Endurance 3
Dodge 3 (with Move as the Lightning you'll have a 19 dodge, allowing you to safely dump parry as you level your weapon)
Armor Use 2
(If you want you could get Defensive Combat I, Master Parry and Blade Barrier, but it will cost you a point of strength)

You could also put a couple points into Astral Energy and Vitality but I find that with a Ring of Life and the Helm of Tie'Shianna you have enough of both.

finished the game, dident rly use corpfrigo, rescindere, fandago...dident rly see a point where it was worth while..most fights whent better when you saved your AE for healing/resummon/rebuff fastness of body and maby a ignifaxus in the early game at max AE to do more damage
