As a long time fan of the franchise, I am both excited and dissapointed about the game (and as well may be more dissapointed after I see the price of the actual game).
The game surely has some potential srong points, based on this demo, such as:
+ Somehow it feels more difficult then the original game;
+ Some change in visuals does make the game more "atmospheric" in a sense;
+ I do like more options in changing the game difficulty and the potentiall additional ;
Unfortunately (for me at least):
- Other visuals, like the Judgement boss looks, eh, "funny" (his shoulders way too unnatural even for the House of the dead standards), and some zombies lost a certain charm that they had during the first House of the 2 game (maybe I am old, I dunno, to think this way);
- SOMEHOW the dialogs became even more cringy then the original HOTD2, which was already bad on its own way. Personally, don't mind, it's a rail shooter, so dialogs are not really their forte, but in one instance a certain NPC screamed "Help!" so weakly, I barely heard it, and it wasn't even good;
- FInally, I don't know the exact price of the game, but by judging the pricing for the previous game, my guess it will be around the same as, or perhaps even more, which is aggraating, given that the remake does not change the gameplay that much, and we basically pay for the "skin" change, which may/may not look better than the original (subjectively).
Overall, at one point someone like me will buy it, but mostly due to nostalgia and "excess" of money, and this game will be quite dissapointing for the casual players, since the gameplay will go for +-1 hour or so, and the price>25$ is, in my opinion, too much for the game that is more like a remaster rather then a remake.
P.S: Do like "Monkey Island" first 2 games: make new visuals and add "the old look" option.
The DEMO sux ASF, 1-3FPS when cutscenes, toned down gore.... :steamthumbsdown:

We are aware of the issue affecting cutscenes' FPS and are actively working on a fix. In the meantime, we recommend playing the demo in English for the best experience. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Well, the most important part for a rail shooter is no doubt lightgun capability, please do not rely on your paying customers to fix this again (and there is a major chance the modder who fixed it for the first remake isn't gonna bother to do it again)

As for the game itself, it's rather rough around the edges, and unfortunately several creature models shown so far just don't have that same intimidation factor (Johnny, David and Ebitan). The Kageo, Ken (from the screenshots on the store page), Randy and Max models do however look the part, these have been done properly.

It also feels rather unsatisfying when you hit your targets, it feels like it's missing some "punch", just like the ragdoll on death, it feels cheap compared to the original game.

A very nice surprise however is the inclusion of the "original" mode, in addition to the choice to swap to the original soundtrack (though you might want to increase the BGM volume in general, it's kind of hard to hear.)

The House of the Dead series is very dear to me, with The House of the Dead 2 as my absolute favourite, I really want this remake to do it the justice it deserves, and that's why I'm hoping you and your team will take several community requests to heart, and implement them either in the upcoming months untill release, or post launch as free updates.

As an additional message to the team working on the Remake :

Please, do not get disheartened by the criticism (well, actual criticism, ignore the "lol,lmao it sucks" ones), we, as fans of the series want nothing more for the remake to be successful, and to match the legendary game The House of the Dead 2 actually is.

As a long time fan I really liked this remake demo. Had a slight issue when I tried to launch it the first time after install but afterwards it worked flawlessly in all game sessions. Do not bother with insufferable flaming posts in the discussions. The remake is already great and the things that can be improved are minor at best. Just make sure the game is bug free and properly stable for all gpu brands.

I put a list again just in case with some updates:

EDIT 2: I updated the list again with messages already on this thread but just because the developers might not see the list twice.

- Voice actors sound bored or forced, they dont sound scared or anything. The first civilian that you can save runs for her life in the original, here she just walks whispering.

- Loading Screens dont shake or move in 3D like they used to in the first game´s remake, which was actually a very neat addition.

- Game´s gore effects and dismemberment are awful and empty, the limbs dont go off like the original and most enemies go down before being able to see a lot of it. Also, the enemies dissappear very fast, unlike the first remake where you could still destroy their bodies. Maybe people didnt like ragdoll so much so instead of getting rid of it, you made the bodies go out faster, but looks cheap. Also, the original 1998 had bodies disintegrate but with a pool of their blood, not just dissappear like an re4 villager.

- Music is too quiet, even if I choose the original soundtrack, the idea in the original was to get your blood pumpin when hearing the music are blasting zombies away.

- The bullets have no animation when shot in the hud, quite the opposite from what was seen in thod remake and the trailer for thod 2 remake. It looks cheap, like a flash game from the internet. Yes, the original had no animations, but the remake should aspire to be better, even better than the first remake which had this feature.

- The life torches should be different colors.The first one had the orange ones and yes, the original arcade thod2 had Orange torches, but I think its a better touch have 1p have a red light and 2p a blue one, like the dreamcast and pc ports. Its better than copy the exact same from the first remake.

-From what I'm seeing, the there are different menus for campaign, boss mode and taining mode, but I really hope they kept the boss and training mode intact, with the awesome tracks and james and Gary pointing out the stage. It had a lot of style and atmosphere instead of just selecting it from the main menu.

They should keep some sort of office or desk where you can seeachievments and progress like the gallery from the first remake, it added lot of personality and style to the game.

James looks weird with the soul patch, the original artwork had a shadow, not a soul patch, doesnt match the original style.

Glad theres an original mode but has the original soundtrack "item select" instead of a new rendition (nitpicky)

- Characters in general lack any sign of distress or life. for example: last civilian to save in first chapter doesnt seem scared or anything and the scare from the zombie out of the alley is predictable and boring. he LITERALLY walks towards the woman.

- Also, when getting a life pack from a civilian, they just give you a floating item instead of handing it to you.

- The game over screen looks very weird. It should be black like the original from 1998 and play the gameover theme immediately when the animation plays, not when seeing the "road map".

- There should be a Game Over title like the original after the death animation. Back in the 90s, sega was known for their iconic game over screens such as daytona usa and the house of the dead was no different. There should be some text aside from the character just dying for more "impact" with a flickering and distorted font like the chapter screens.

- the initial chapter screen looks a bit too similar to the first remake. It lacks the greedy are eerie font and effects used in the original game, which was inspired by seven intro from 1995. I think it looks a bit cheap. the words need to have more flickering and distorted movement.

-Gary Stewart´s model in general looks very plastic and off. He was suppose to be some sort of leonardo di caprio from the 2000s or leon kennedy looking guy. his hairline here in the remake is in the middle and his face looks weird, not on a side like the original.

-Also, shouldn´t the gun look different? The guns in the original look more like beretta cougars. They were kind of a staple and it looks weird in the remake. They worked better in the original trailer for the first thod remake, the announcement trailer showed a black gun. I know the gun in the first remake was based on original artwork "the ams eater" but we really need the beretta cougars. It looks cheap to just copy the same gun and design when the original 1998 game had different and better looking guns.

-The first remake had multiple animations for the bullets when fired, but here, they look like a flash game, accurate to the original, but was better in the first remake because of the 3D.

-The main menu should be more iconic, the menu feels cheap considering its EXACTLY the same way the first remake was. The original menu for the dreamscast and pc ports were nothing out of this world, but they had personality and style such as James and Gary pointing out the stages in training and boss mode, aside from the amazing tracks in those menus. The charm of this game is key for this game´s success. This is very important in terms of presentation, to have personality like the 1998 game you are trying to pay tribute.

- The enemies in the remake dissappear in a weird way, looking like the switch version of the first remake. They get down on the floor and dissappear on a cheap re7 moldy way. When in the original, enemies left a poll of their blood after dying. This was way more iconic and better in presentation.

- You should change the order of the modes in the menu. The original pc and dreamcast modes had arcade mode first and then original mode (the latter being an exclusive mode to this version)
this makes sense considering that arcade mode is just the normal game and then a second option is the same game but with a few more items. This could be confussing for new players if the first option to choose is the original mode and then after beating it, they expect something fresh for the second option (arcade mode) and getting the same mode but with less features.

-The library should have more books and even a typewriter on the desk. This makes the enviorment feel less empty, with more life in its background. The remake looks too empty and void of any detail.

-After the line "How Could Anyone Do This", the original made a zombie appear out of nowhere making a chair move and make noise, this is completely absent in the remake. This should add a bit of tension in the scene, instead of having zombies walk from a far.

-The axes of Johnny should have blood...This would imply to the player he already killed people, which adds to the inmmersion or atmosphere

-The cutscene where james meets G should be in third person, showing both characters talking. Its weird if its in first person honestly, looks awkward.

-The roadmap when dying should be black with typewriter style of font. It adds to the atmosphere inspired by seven (1995) which was an inspiration for the series. And also, we need names for each place, not just drawings. if anything, it looks like a bug to witness this without any indication.

- The game could have a desk where you can see your progress and achievements, instead of just heading to steam or watching a list on the main menu. Like the first remake with the gallery mode. It adds personality and charm to the game.

- I´ve noticed after many many plays, that the enemies´s health is not based on weakspots and damage, but rather, just how many shots they get. This should be a weak point/ health based system. If not, the enemies are too easy to take down. I play every time in very hard and they still die in 2 to 3 shots.

-I think its important to retain David´s 3D twitching Eye, it was some trademark design from the original 1998 game. the remake has the eye there, but it is not moving or anything. It should be bigger or more detailed.

-The remake has some weird texturing for the floor on the starting area, like it tries to make the streets wet and all but fails at it and ends up with a weird looking texture, when in the original, it was cleaner but better. There should be less water in the floor or better textures for the street.

-The enemies in the remake dissappear in a weird way, looking like the switch version of the first remake. They get down on the floor and dissappear on a cheap re7 moldy way. When in the original, enemies left a poll of their blood after dying. This was way more iconic and better in presentation.

- In the scene where James meets G, the remake makes it obvious that something is happening or gonna happen because of G when james says the added line "Looks like G´s infiltration notes".
The original 1998 was iconic for this moment where you see them talking in third person and then the camera pawns in a cinematic way towards the glass door where the new enemy Johnny is introduced. Both James and G are startled by this, because no one was looking or expecting nothing in that direction. This should be fixed

- The scene where you rescue the last survivor has a great scare in the original after saving her from the zombie in the roof. She calms down and then walks toward the player but wooden barrier near her breaks loudly and a zombie runs, she reacts naturally to that situation. But in the remake, this scene loses all tension because the civilian doesnt react at all at any given time and because the wood doesnt break violently like the original and the zombie doesnt run as much.

- the lines "is he invincible?" and "the small one must be the brain" on the judgment fight are completely gone. When starting the fight, if the players doesnt hit zeal, the first time Kuarl attempts to swing his axe, James asks these lines confused, which adds a bit to the inmmersion of not knowing what to do. why remove it?

-. The streets in the jugdement fight looks wet and badly textured in the remake compared to the original 1998 where it was clean but better looking, not wet or bugged.

- This is touching a bit around the soundtrack for the new remake but I feel like the new remaster for "tragedy again" is very bland to say the least. It doesnt have the same punch or feel like the original. In part because the music is quiet but in general, the original track gave a surreal almost hellish idea of an invasion in a city: the track starts with grunting and hellish vocals which help build up the initial ecounter with zeal. And after that, the track starts drums and beats for the player to hype and start blasting (this experience gets better when you play co op and hear james cheer Gary "lets go gary" before the beat of the track starts.
in short: the remake one hardly retains the original source for the track, just a bit of leit motiv but lacking al the drum beats the original track had. Its suppose to feel hopeless, not just a quiet techno track.
Youtube user trexx45 made a nice remix of the whole soundtrack which actually maintains the drum beats, for an example.

Please just add simple VR support.

You don't need to recode the entire game, you don't need to touch the entire game at all. Just a 3D location/s from the game, with a 2D cabinet inside it that can be played officially in VR.

Just look at Pinball FX VR for an example of what you could do, but swap the pinball machines for a 2D arcade cabinet.

VR is a platform where rail shooters/lightgun games can thrive and I'm sure you'd increase your sales margins by offering this.

For the God of love I'm begging you to delay this game there's no way you can launch it on spring the way it is now.
