Am I just bad?
3 days in and i can't seem to reliably kill anything that isn't a trash mob.

I read that playing games in your apartment can get you party members but so far i've only gotten are traders and a woman whos lost her daughter. Any advice? I'd really rather not have to drop to easy mode

Sure, I’ll try and give some pointers.

The first piece of advice is to be willing to expend resources, like using your gun. The pistol is very strong early on. For 2 Stamina you can fire off 3 rounds very fast. Remember to reload out of combat by selecting the Ranged skill for a character equipped with firearms.

The second piece of advice is to pick up the guaranteed party members as soon as possible. You can get Joel if you tell him you’re his neighbor and give him his teddy bear from the room below him, then kill his mom and come back for him. You can get Leigh on the first day by defeating her in her monster form on Floor 2. The weakness of the monster is slashing damage, so bring the knife from the first enemy and be willing to use special moves. It’ll be a close fight, so come at full health and immediately bandage afterwards. Try and kill most of the trash to gain extra health from leveling up before the encounter. Go back to the room the Grinning Beast came out of before you finish going down the hallway, or the room will become inaccessible. You can trade with her, or recruit her, at which point you can no longer trade with her. It might be random, but I think she starts at Level 5 and has some nice base stats.

Other than that, make sure to craft throwable items. Explosives are very powerful, as are Acid Flasks. There are guides that show you the recipes for this, and the game will remind you what you’re trying to craft before consuming resources once you craft the recipe(s) once.

Make sure you use the weaknesses of the monsters to your advantage. Most of the weaknesses make logical sense. Enemies with lots of limbs or fleshy bits tend to be weak to Slashing damage, for example. If you’re unsure about what kind of enemies you’ll be encountering in an area, it can help to have different weapons equipped for your party. You can use throwable items as a means of dealing weakness damage when you have the wrong type of weapon equipped.

You can obtain certain skills for Sam (main character) by playing specific video games enough times. The racing game gives you arguably the most powerful skill in the game.

Remember to shower and brush your teeth once a day in order to keep your detection radius for enemies low.

Let me know here if you have other questions.

The 15 day timeframe is generous, that you can spend a day playing videogames to farm door encounters, but it is random, so unlucky people can just get a conga line of traders.

No problem. To clarify one other thing, when I was talking about weaknesses from throwables, this includes stuff like knives and forks. For instance, enemies with lots of eyes are typically weak to Pierce type.

I also forgot that for the Leigh battle, the Cleaver can be obtained safely on the same floor by visiting Jeanne’s apartment, which is IIRC the highest damage weapon you can find at that point in the game.

The game gets a lot easier with multiple party members.
