[SPOILER] Locked out of endings?

I'm ~5 hours into my playthrough and just got the incomplete ritual ending, I realized that when I gave the astronomer the photo i goofed up and forgot to develop it. Am I right that there's no way to take back offerings or undo the mistake without going all the way back to before I gave him the photo? I'm down to redo things (abt 3 hours of progress since my last save where i still had the photo) because I think everything else about the game is sick and I want to get the other endings but it feels punishing that a mistake that far back completely locked my save out of the other endings and there was no indication that I had made a mistake until now. I realized what I did wrong now but when I gave him the photo he said it was a suitable offering so I assumed it was fine, I feel like he should have given some kind of an indication that the offering was flawed so I could intuit that I needed to do more to get it to work.

I feel like the fact it DOESNT give you any indication makes it so much better. You have to really pay attention with this stuff and developing the photo is quite the event to learn how to do. It adds to the world building that the astronomers cant look at the evidence itself otherwise they'll transform into monsters. They can't possibly know that you gave them bad evidence

This is fair, but imo it wouldn't take away from the worldbuilding if I could at least go up to him and go "hey can I have that back I realized it's not real evidence"

I did the exact same thing and feel the same way, except I'm 10 hours in without any saves to go back to. It's my mistake, but if I could've taken it back that'd have been great.
