Joel Mirror Scene and other random scenes
Spoilers but after you deal with Joel's entire family and recruit him, I encountered a scene at the bathroom mirror where Sam goes over what happened in the apartment in pure shock and horror at the fact that he killed them without at least looking for a cure, while justifying it to himself with dialouge choices

I tried to recreate it happening, but it seems to be random. I think on my first playthrough I killed Joel's dad while he was in the party and maybe that triggered it? Are there other random scenes like that you've all found?

The reason i'm interested is because this game has BALLER writing, I fully did not expect it to happen at all.

I know that there's one if you take the war medal from your landlord's apartment. It seems like they randomly happen when you brush your teeth.
There are a few scenes with the mirror. Maybe it will occur more when you do optional stuff…? I mean. Nothing forces us into that room.

Other one that comes to mind is if you steal a lot of personal items from others homes (food and consumables are fine to take, personal items are usually junk unless the merchant who looks like the RE4 merchant stops by) you confront yourself about taking items and it’s funny.

Their appearance is random, once the Joel one appeared right after I completed it, reloaded a save and it didn’t pop up for another 2 days.

Honestly, I feel like the one about killing the teeth family to be silly too. I get feeling weird about hurting people but like, they are literally trying to kill you. I was rolling my eyes through that and the one about stealing from apartments filled with monsters.
These scenes happen randomly once certain criteria have been met(clearing the tooth family and recruiting Joel, taking the war medal, etc), brushing your teeth is not required, as it happens before the prompt to do so.

From what i have been able to test myself, there are a LOT of paths with these scenes, depending on how you attempt to reason with your actions. My personal favorite is getting Sam to think that maybe he was doing a good thing, only to think that there could have been another way. The expression he gives is horrified and horrifying
I got the tooth family one without recruiting. Joel, it was after a long session of grinding a morale draining video game, so I assumed it was when I had too low of a morale
I got the tooth guilt scene and it freaked me out a bit lol

I also got one at the table when sitting down to eat, where you are looking at the kitchen knife deeply and feeling tempted to stab yourself some eyeball holes, as if the knife is sort of possessing you. It's if you took that knife from the first eyeball belly guy. It gives you the option to do so, or snap out of it. I didn't want to FA, so I didn't FO

I don't know, sure the dad, but the whole family?

I tried to get the knife scene from what you mentioned and managed it. Sure enough if you stab yourself you'll get a game over and think of how stupid you were to cut yourself open. Makes me wonder if there are other fatal events like that (besides Monty setting your apartment on fire). Thanks for the info!

The way most people play this video game does come off as psychopathic, and the mirror conversations, especially when trying to rationalize it, do help paint this. There's really no reason to barge into most of the apartments and kill whoever's inside, and we don't really need to take anything. I've gotten to day 15 without leaving the apartment.

Nice, I was uneasy about it since it wasn't covered in CrankyTemplars' death compilations from what I can tell. Its cool finding eerie new dead ends

Monty can set fires to napkins at dinnertime. You can either tell him to knock it off, or encourage his inner Beavis (which leads to a game over)

There's actually a second version of the knife scene where you do find eyes and keep cutting yourself until you go insane. I have no idea what triggered this other version as I did the same thing. But it's neat to see nonetheless!

Thats wild. I still havent got the knife scene again since first report but I love all these rare hidden events. Its always special when even crank templar misses it in his initial game coverage
