the controllers are just fine partial means it only works for certain types like the 360 im not sure if it works on a PS4 but 360 is perfectly fine also its definitly designed for controllers the game play is just too fast for it not to be

I tried with DualShock 4 using InputMapper to emulate 360 controller and it worked perfectly.

Gameplay with controller is fine.

"Partial controller support" may just mean you can't rebind gamepad controls. I haven't found a way to.

No. It was originally a PSP game. The controller support is perfect.

Like goomba said, it's probably because you can't rebind the controls, and can't use a controller that doesn't support X-input.
