Bug with dropping magazine on the ground
I don't think this is an intended feature, since they have the same mechanic with the AK dropping mag on the ground and you can pick it up.
But currently if you want to fast-drop a mag they just disappear after like 3s if you don't pick it up in time.

Pretty sure it's intended. One of the virtues reduces the chance of mags lost when dropped. Also one of the npcs warn about carelessly dropping mags on the ground.

Would you drop your girlfriend on the ground and would you expect her to hang around if you did? Treat your mags like you would treat a girlfriend, delicate and prone to braking; but treat with care and you can continue using them to shoot hot loads.

But it may be a bug, you would have to describe exactly how often it happens to you and the conditions it happens in for us to really know either way.

You need to use the unload button and not the reload button. Unload palms/pockets the magazine and then pushing reload will load a full mag so long as you have full ones in your backpack. You can also just unload it and wait for the autoloader to load it, and then reload it. You are losing them because they are breaking when you "toss" them for a quick reload.
fair, coming from the citadel I expected it to function like the AK there. Though I'll say this feature feels dumb for how realistic the game is trying to go for. Mags shouldn't just "expired"after being on the ground for 3s, especially since you can just quickly pick them up and use them again like nothing happened.

Mags don't "expire" they are breaking, there's a chance when a mag hits the ground that it breaks. It's just a game mechanic if you are using that reload style. There's two other settings for reloading and loading so if you don't like the magazine component maybe choose the one that's the middle option instead.
Its not supposed to be realistic its supposed to be a decision. If it bothers you too much you can always max out the stat or play with another weapon mode.

My biggest problem with game after playing some tarkov-like games before is only having options to either "remove mag- add new bullets in this mag - insert it back" or "quickly drop current mag on the ground (with high chance to lose it you didnt lvled up one perk) to insert new one". Why no "remove current mag and store it away - insert new mag - passivly load old one"? (if i remember correctly one of the NPC told you either you suit or implants have ability to passivly load bullets in stored empty magazines).
Yeah loading current mag or storing old one and inserting new will probably consume same time, but running around unloading and loading same mag over and over while having spare loaded ones in you vest looks kinda stupid.
(and yes, i didnt have any problems playing game (currently on chapter 6) with manual loading/unloading/соскing, idea of mixing quick boomer shooter with tactical leaning and mag system is working great, but mag part can be done better)

You are confused, that's already how it works. You can just quickly X,R and the old mag will load passively in backpack. You only need to wait if you only have one mag.
