i get a lot of micro-stutter in my open world games, will this fix that?
i play a lot of open world games, mostly arma3, and my 7200 HDD sucks the big one for that. i get micro stutters constantly from what i assume is slow texture loading.

could this be the magic i need?

How much RAM do you have? ARMA doesn't use a lot last I checked so having 12GB+ would be fine. I don't think I could recommend this as your magical fix with less than that. Also sometimes stutters are cpu related. I can't say with any confidence that this would solve your issues but its very possible that it would help a lot.

You would need to put a decent chunk into ram to make use of it and I think the terrain and models would far exceed a small ramdisk. I could check with my 32GB of ram but I realize that not many people have access to that sort of room.

I'll give it a go in a bit. Just verifying the game cache. See if there is much of an improvement.
Just for reference though, it really helped me with batman arkham city and far cry 4 to some extent as well. It does work but it really depends on how the game is coded to gather resources from the hdd.

Hey there,

I can say this with experience: My laptop had 4GB of RAM and would not reasonably play ARMA3. The microstutter was real, real bad. I got 16GB of RAM and put as much as I could on Dimmdrive and it is crazy how big of a difference it is. HUGE! ARMA3 does "asset streaming" whereas it streams data constantly. Having files on the Dimmdrive really do a big help.

I bought ARMA3 specifically because I heard from users that Dimmdrive with ARMA3 is such a huge improvement that I wanted to see it myself. It definitely was.

So yea :)

It still happens on occasion but nowhere as bad as it was without dimmdrive. I DID still have to drop my textures down to High though as my gpu's 2GB vram just can't cut it with ultra.

ARMA 3 unfortunately or fortunately is running really great even without dimmdrive on my system right now. I had vsync on though and it was stuck at 60 even while flying around Altis. I'll unlock it and try again with and without dimmdrive.

edit: I see tim tested arma 3 already so I won't bother but yeah it makes sense that it would help a lot. Any game with constant streaming from the hdd should benefit greatly.
