I have the same issue. Although, I haven't tested the steam counter yet. Fraps definitely does not work, but try messing with settings using steam in admin mode(Ctr+Shift+Click steam) to load it in admin mode with admin privileges.

Okay, yes its confirmed for me too that steam overlay doesn't work with this dx12 preview patch. Now, whether it is unintentional or not is something to debate. My theory is that they might have temporarily taken it out compatibility with 3rd party applications like fraps to increase stability across a wider range until full DX12 is released.

steam overlay with fps counter works fine with me, nvidia 970 latest drivers

not trying to be annoying, just saying it works with latest patch, at least for me in dx12 and dx11

Then it is a bug ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Probably AMD, I have radeon HD 6870/r9 2xx chipset. I wonder what trooper has?

Are you running steam in admin mode?

Steam overlay with DX12 and AMD card worked for me. Nothing special about my steam setup. Now if only DX12 mode was worth a damn on my setup...

Yeah, apparently newer cards have a problem with dx12 but honestly you can go back to dx11 because its not graphically more superior as of now. There are no special graphic features that dx11 doesn't support(that i know of at least), its just to boost the performance. Less overhead API update. I do notice a slight performance boost in my older AMD but thats only because crossfire/sli isnt' supported yet. It will be supported in the full DX12 version, so thats when we can all enable crossfire/sli. I tried enabling it before the dx12 preview and it gave me graphic glitches and crashes. After, it just doesn't boost frame rate, maybe reduces slightly. Its hard to tell without being able to see the actual FPS now.

i went back to DX11 because DX12 has 0 visual differences and costs more performance - the reason to use DX12 why is beyond my understanding

FRAPS hasn't been updated for a long time and do not support DX12.
No bug just lack of development.

EDIT: Steam FPS counter works fine for me in DX12.

It is most useful in more dated GPU's like my 6870 HD. Unfortunately newer cards wont see any performance benefit for a while, most likely. Deus Ex developers said newer cards wont have much use for dx12 at the moment, but its only a preview patch right now. It could be fixed by the time official dx12 patch releases or not to distant future. DX12 is still pretty new to game development.

Now that makes more sense. Yeah, now that I think about it, it hasn't been updated in a while and I have not tested it out in any other DX12 environment, so that probably why fraps doesn't work.

Anyone got any ideas how I can try to get my Steam FPS counter working? Steam in-game overlay and steam controller profiles work perfectly. I must say, flipping up the controller to jump is pretty cool.

Are you getting the pop-up about Steam overlay when starting games from within Steam?
Does it work in ANY game at all?
