The way I solved it - maybe doesn't work always - is to try to create a stair (one only 1 high, the other 2 high, the last 3 high). I don't know if the order counts. Obviously, since changing one affects the other, it is slightly tricky to achieve that, but really easy. I just don't know if the approach works every time, or in every order (low to high, or high to low?). And I think the shortest one has to be at the front in the end.

IIRC the penguin was quite obvious because there had to be something there. What I had to look up online was the spraycan.

It's a fixed solution. I think it was what you said, 1 at the front. Then 2 on the left, then 3 on right right. They glow when they're in the right spot.

Ironically, I didn't understand what that was. And by the time I did, I'd already messed up the sequence, so I had to figure it out the long way.

Yes that puzzle made you work at it if you missed the note. Going in the vent get's you in the room, but that door does not open from the inside.
