This game is really throttling my i5-3570k
I tried the game at first on high, with things like cloth/tesselations/etc turned off. my cpu hit 78C when my automatic computer bios shut off is set at 80C

So I set the game to low, but then turned medium textures back on leaving the rest on low's choices, certain parts of prague still spike to 75C although usually the game is down around 60F

I have a 970gtx that is barely being used now, just because my cpu can't keep up.

Is this due to denuvo? I tried core locking the game to 1 core and every ten seconds or so the game would freeze up entirely for about 5seconds. Then I tried it locked to 2 cores and the game stuttered rarely for only about a second, but bugs popped up, like npcs appearing rigiht next to you, walking through an npc, the game crashing.

I think that denuvo must be initializing itself every ten or so second and this is what massively spikes cpu usage and temperature for an instant before going back down to acceptable levels.
I'm just going to play on minimum settings, which is a shame, the game was gorgeous to start with.

I think that perhaps the listed minimum/recommended specs should be increased for the lsited cpu requirements, although my gpu was never really under much load at all the fans never went above 20%.

Note: I was playing on borderless fullscreen (that's how I could see my temperature program) maybe I should go back and see if exclusive fullscreen helps the cpu, although it seems like it would more likely only help the gpu.

I've got a 3570K and 970 too. Not seeing this issue :/

My CPU usage hovers around 80-90% usage while in Prauge. GPU almost always at 99%

1080p with high settings and a few options off (personal preference like motion blur, DOF)

F as in Fahrenheit? 80F is like 26.7C only and is actually a very cool temperature for a CPU.
mizkreant 24 AGO 2016 a las 2:24
Something's wrong. I have the same CPU and the game only reaches a max of 75% CPU utilization on high settings.
namad 24 AGO 2016 a las 2:25
Do you have an aftermarket heatsink? my cpu/gpu usages are actually a lot lower than those numbers. Although comparing usage to temperature is a bit tough.

Also I meant C not F. Really bad typo, whoops. Are you guys using exclusive fullscreen? most of the time my cpu usage is down around 40-60% but it spikes up for an instant every ~10seconds or so like I said.

and what gpu...

I have a XFX Dual Dissapation R9 290. I should also clarify that the 75% was in the benchmark, I haven't checked the most demanding areas of Prague yet. My max CPU temp was 69C after playing the game according to MSI Afterburner.

One thing I just realized it could be, my gpu model has by default whisper quiet mode, which might mean it's under using it's fan and pushing more heat to the case than it would if I manually turned the fan on. Although I haven't had this problem in any other game before, like say fallout 4.

Alternatively, I didn't need to turn down textures, but some of the other settings. I don't really know what they all mean.

Yeah aftermarket heatsink on both CPU/GPU. Exclusive fullscreen on and tripple buffering vsync. Pretty much left all other settings at stock high and getting 60fps with a couple of dips here and there when there's a lot going on.

Do you have an overclock on your CPU? Turn it down to stock just to check if the problem is still there.

A lot of your replies don't entirely address my problem. My fps was fine, it's just that I was getting a lot more usage and temperatures spikes than other games give. It's not so much that I care about my fps here. I am just not interested in getting a bsod if I start a big fight in a hub area like prague.

Anyone replying that they have fine fps, might run the same risk I'm fearing, and solving by hampering my quality (perhaps more than nessassary).

you are probably just fully gpu limited. still I bet you go well over 75% cpu usage on your 3570k at times especially if you have the settings that impact the cpu turned on or up. I just looked back at one of my screenshots and my 4770k was at 65% with nothing at all going on and me just standing there so I would be fully pegging any i5.

I have an i5 3330 (stock cooler) running at 3.5 GHz paired with GTX 970... Running the game at near maxed out settings and the CPU temp hardly crosses over 70 C here... Ambient temp must be around 28 C. Check the thermal paste on your CPU and re-apply if needed. That'll most likely fix your issue.:steamhappy:
EDIT: CPU usage around 70-85% max during my observation..

I wouldn't worry about it. 3570K can handle a consistent 80C temp no problem.

My 3570K is overclocked to 4.3Ghz and my temps in most games are mid 80s. Never been a problem.

I guess I could just increase the bios automatic shutdown temperature, I thought it was based on something, but was it just cowardly super low at 80C?

Exclusive fullscreen gave no performance boost to my cpu, I figured it wouldn't, that usually only helps gpu issues.

constantly running your cpu into the 80s is not a good idea. I guess your logic is that it is okay since it hasn't broke. I really hope you dont apply that to everything in your life...

Definitely not a good idea, the hotter a chip runs for an extended time the shorter the chips lifespan. You can run the ♥♥♥♥ out of something without instantly killing it.

Not all that unlike cars. You can treat em like ♥♥♥♥ for awhile and they'll still work, but it will take it's toll.
