fullscreen = borderless windowed
Dr. Livesey Aug 23, 2016 @ 10:49am
Yeah wtf?
Is one saying 'fullscreen window' vs the 'fullscreen' we normally get offered?

Edit: ok if above reply in before me is correct then that would make sense.
They shouldn't change the terminology though.

Actually for anyone else who claims to know: Is there a performance difference between the options?
Renner Aug 23, 2016 @ 10:50am
Exclusive fs is the true fullscreen option, and the other is borderless window. Exclusive one is causing me crashes, and borderless as well if I turn off TXAA. Oh well, it will need some patches, just like RotTR did.

Fulscreen: Borderless Windowed, you can alt-tab without any problems in a second, but your PC's resources will not be fully forwarded to the game, but will be shared with any app that is running in the background

Exclusive Fullscreen: The "true fullscreen" alt-tabbing takes around 3-4 secs and game may crash, but all your PC's resources are forwarded for the game, so it provides better performance

Yes, Fullscreen AKA exclusive fullscreen will typically yield higher performance vs borderless windowed fullscreen.

The reason for this is if you are not in exclusive fullscreen then your computer is still allocating resources to update the windows and screens in the background.

Okay you guys are right "fullscreen" is actually just borderless.
Lolwtf

Thanks guys

The resource/performance hit for borderless vs exclusive isn't that much and frankly if you're not running a potato or a toaster, you won't notice it as there is no game out there which runs CPU to 100% constantly.

Now if you're playing on a potato or a toaster, welp...

Guys when I switch ON exclusive fullscreen my game is much darker, but performance is 60fps or more. When i switch OFF, game is brighter and more beautiful, but 30-40fps. When I take printscreens for compare, there are look both exactly same, its weard.

Borderless relies on the operating system to draw while fullscreen lets the game itself draw on screen.

Change the brightness on your windows if that is a problem.

Most Games activated a tripple Buffering when running in bordeless window.
A perfomance loss of 20 fps maybe a idication for that

I'm getting a weird issue where the game forces a 1080i resolution when I toggle exclusive fullscreen. Turning it off has the game running at 1080p. Performance for me in either mode is great and looks miles better with it off.
