Deus ex isn't heavily focused on sniping, and the one actual sniper rifle in the game that functions like one would is among the worst weapons you could possibly use.
If you want to be a superspy cyborg assassin man with a degree in snipercology, invest in the appropriate augs.
I'm no "super soldier", not an expert at sniping, I'm not even a soldier at all - but I've shot my friends AR15 and I can hold my aim steadier than the guy in this game even WITH the first level "Aug" - drives me nuts the way the gun moves around like he's trying to aim at some fly rather than what I WANT to aim at.
You have no real concept of firearms.
First of all an AR15 is a medium range, medium stoping-power weapon. It is not suitable for anything that could be considered sniping.
So YOU can hold you buddys AR15 more steady than Jensen can ingame.....these things are so far apart they should not even been compared.
You were probably in field or at a firing range shooting at a paper target.
Kinda worlds away from what is going on ingame.
Do you honestly think you could keep your aim so steady when also trying to tuck behind cover, roll out enough for a clear shot......the whole time being fired at???
You say you are no soldier at all, so I can assure you that is infact a whole different world in an actual combat situation. I can tell you this from experience as I serverd little over 6 years with US Army Airborne.
You also have to consider you are comparing a fleash and blood shooter to a cyborg. Jensens torso, arms, even his lungs are all mechanical. That he would not benifit from typical breathing techniques for distance shooting is realistic.
Snipers and DMRMs can benifit from these because they are fighting things like shortness of breath (form running and such) and adrenaline. Whereas Jensen has mechanical/CPU based system to manage these things for him. Cyber lungs that would always moderate breathing rate. System to filter out adrenaline past a certain point and so on, and so on.
Upgrading yourself for it IS a gameplay mechanic, what? Making it so you press a button would make the augs rather pointless, like the radar ones. Don't like dealing with unsteady aim? Upgrade. Don't want to? Too bad, deal with it. It's kind of the point.
You may have served but that sure as hell doesn't make you a firearms expert.
As for weapon handling in the game, a first person RPG set in a fictional futuristic setting, I think some contrivances for the sake of gameplay can be forgiven.
