I played DXHR many times on the hard difficulty, and i am just about to begin my 3rd playthrough on Hard for MD. If you like a challenge from the start, choose hard as the 'give me deus ex' mode is too easy.
2. Enough, but less than in HR. Remember this is only half a game with many cliffhangers and loose ends. Will be continued.
3. Storyline is good but not as gripping as in HR, it feels like it is setting the scene for more to come.
4. Yes, too easy. Choose the hardest difficulty you can.
5. Yes, with extensive exploration and doing literally everything, reading everything, hacking everything, I played 43 hours.
I did many playthroughs of Deus Ex, three of DE/IW (yes I am the one person who liked it), two of The Fall and seven full playthroughs of DE/HR, plus three of The Missing Link when it was still separate. I am now on NG+ for DE/MD and that will be it for MD.
The amount of missions in this game isnt too high but they are quite long depending on your choices. I would say all missions (story and side) takes around 20-25 hours to complete. But exploring is a big part of this game. It reveals little fragments of the background story, gives you massive amounts of exp and also items. There are many hidden areas you can find and it feels kinda rewarding, at least enough to explore the whole world in my opinion. And in the end it adds plenty of hours to your gametime. I finished the game with 49 hours after doing every mission and exploring every corner.
The decisions you make in some missions and dialogues are leading to different ways of this missions and you should play the game at least two times to see them all.
The story is definitely weaker than HRs but its not too bad. Its good enough to be interested what happens after the next missions. Only the ending is actually disappointing. But it totally not casts "a shadow on the gameplay" because playing the way you want with the possibilities you have in this game is pure gold.
The game becomes easy in the late game when you have a lot of augs and playing on normal difficulty but its okay on hard. For sure its not a Dark Souls and as always the difficulty depends on your playstyle. Stealthing through the game is more challenging than just running and shooting everyone you see.
But after all i can really recommend this game. Its awesome gameplay wise even if the story is a bit weak. If you are a Deus Ex fan you should get it.
I didn't complete the game because I left for working 6 months in another country and didn't have the time to finish it, not because i disliked the game.
I try to answer your questions with my experience that I gathered with the game.
1. The game tells you that the ending you chose at the end of dx:hr are useless, it has some background stories like "where did Jensen come from", just now like "what did happen to Jensen". But there are no answers given to you. You see only Adam and his chef from the last game, you can say all other characters are new. I don't count Page, since you never meet him and only see him in a sequence or e-mail.
Personally i disliked the idea to toss all the other supporting chars from hx:hr in the garbage and give new ones that you like or dislike. Miller is one of them, cool bro, but it's up to you what happens with him.
The gameplay is similar, since I used only non leathel stealth takedowns not much has changed. You have more options to interact with the objects around you. I'm talking about hacking TV / radio with the new aug. People are saying combat is now better and gives more xp, so you almost have the same xp if you kill someone compared with the non leathel option.
I remember a lot limb clinics in dx:hr well in the new game there is only one and it's closed. So you can buy Praxis City only from one person as much as I know (I still haven't finished the game).
2. People complain about how fast you can complete the game with only main missions. I think the game mutated to something like Fallout. The main story is crappy, since it tells you nothing more than before. The side missions are a highlight. One of the best that I saw is The AI from panchea contacting you and asking for help on your second visit to Prague. The best side mission is talking with Sarif, it is splitted into 3 missions, which you will have to work on your 3 Visits in Prague. Don't wonder if you talk to Sarif and nothing happens on your first visit. Same goes for the second visit, but on the third visit with the rain, when you talk to him again. Well "Thats something that you have to figure our yourself kid". Crazy thing and only few people are talking about it.
The third questing part are "POI", points of interest, you can get them when you walk around and search for things or buy them for 1 neuropozine. Just don't sell that stuff for 1k credits, I have more than 100k Credits and can't buy anything from it ;)
So there are some quets that are good, but the main story gives you nothing. It's like nothing ever happened, you just get closer to "Janus" and get nothing told about pretty everything else.
3. Well i said it on point 2 i think, mainstory is kinda crappy but sidemissions are pretty interesting. I think if you combine the Sarif sidemisson with the last sidemission with that "butcher" plus some other things... "Well kid, that's something you gotta find out on your own"
I'm not sure which phrase Sarif exactly uses but maybe it's another Phantom Pain that we are told here. Have to wait for the DLC and how they tell another story.
But in general it just feels like the movies with theis last part that is seperated into 2 parts. Like the Harry Potter, Twillight (really boring last thing, cool fighting sequence that is just avision? come on, go home movie makers...) or Tributes of Panem. We have to wait for the second part and that is what nobody tells you when you buy the game.
4. I'm not sure, since it doesen't matter to me which difficulty you chose when you use only non leathel takedowns with your "q" to maximite the ep you can collect. If I was seen I just reloaded... Double takedowns give you the most ep, so stealth in, press q, collect your 45 bonus ep and be happy :)
5. Well I think I tried to explore mot of the game, you have to look after how long I played. I even found 1 extra hidden praxis Kit in the Aug Ghetto and posted it. maybe someone took it in the list of Praxis Kits you can find in Golem City. I Think you will play like 30+ h when you do all the sidemissions and POI, then there is this NG+ or how it's called. You can start the game again with all Praxis Points you gained and your inventory I think, cool thing but I am not sure If I am going to use it.
6. There is a stash in Jensens Appartment when you start the game after the Prologue in Saudi Arabia. It is "hidden" behind the wall in the living room left side of the TV. Plus in your bed room is a hidden stash next to your bed in the floor. I am not sure if it is there on your first visit to Prague since I only saw it on the second visit.
Explore, enjoy, I liked the game as much as it was.
I didn't play the breach mode, and didn't play the Jensen bonus mission, since I had no time.
People are complaining about the Main Story which is well, kinda crappy I guess. They complained about micro transactions, what I understand. But you don't need these micro transactions with bonus Praxis kits to enjoy the game.
Just run around, remote hack the tvs and radios to collect bonus xp, read the laptops and notes and enjoy the game.
Some people were complaining about fps, if you play it then furn msaa off, I had a C2Q with 8 GB Ram, Ati x260 Graphic Card and a SSD. I played it on 35-45 fps and had almost no problems with the game. Yeah I use only 1280x1024 resolution but most details were on high or even higher, I didn't change a thing, automatic configuration did the job for me.
If you have a nvidia graphic card don't try DX12, most ppl say it's bad.
I bought the game for 33€ I think as a preorder in october 2015, the game key came like 1 week after release since there were some troubles...
I would recommend it for 33€ but I don't think you will get it for that price. You can wait if you are unsure for a steam sale or look for it on the web. 60€ maybe a bit much but still worth it if you can get some bonus things like the first dlc or something like that or the preorder version, which still may be available...
It's up to you to decide. Most people just dislike the idea of micro transactions in a full price title and i agree with them. But beside that the game is solid (can't tell you much about breach mode, some are complaining it is not that good) and the devs did a good job and we have to wait for the dlc plus the next deus ex mankind reunited? or deus ex jensen reinvited or deus ex story ending and giving hints for the original dx.
The game is one of the best releases this year imo.
Answers to your questions:
1.gameplay is similar to HR, but with improved mechanics. Non lethal gameplay is improved, however the dialogs do not change considerably even if you don't kill a single soul (quite dissapointing)
2. There are some side missions and they are more or less interesting and meaningful. I would like there to be more though
3.Storyline is ok. I would rate it 3 out of 5. (see p. 6 for more info)
4. The "Deus Ex" difficulty (one level harder than normal) is like normal in my opinion. The hardest difficulty is locked until you have finished the game one time on other difficulty
5. My playthrough took 37 hours - I did almost everything that had could be done in the game
6.Don't be too worried about the microtransactions - I did a full playthrough without using them. The praxis kits that are present in the game are enough.
What others are saying about the game being cut short on purpose is a fact. I was with the impression that the hardest and most interesting missions were still to come when the game suddenly ended.
I was expecting a much larger scale world - more cities, places etc. That was not the case
The graphics are also nice albeit with some technical issues at the moment. Suprrisingly, I was able to run the game with my under-minimum specs PC – amd fx 4300 3,8@4,2 GHz, 8 Gb RAM, Sapphire HD 7750 850/1200@900/1280 – at 1366x768 on medium details at 30–40 fps, with some frequent drops to low 20's or high 10's in Prague (my home city BTW:-). I particularly like the lighting and how shadows are used both indoors and outdoors. The transitions between differently lit areas are in one word fantastic. On the other hand, facial animations did not get improved much from DE:HR. They feel somewhat unnatural and stiff. Anyway, the progress with DE:MD' visuals is clear at first sight and its art direction, stylization and attention to detail only add to the overall positive experience.
It is not a revolution by far, it just builds on what was already good in DE:HR and adds some extra spice. Yes, there are not many changes, there are new cool and useful augmentations, some characters you meet are interesting, you can mod your weapons on the fly. Other than that, it kind of feels like a DE:HR Augmented Version 2.0 gameplay-wise. Do not get me wrong though, this is not meant as a downside, I just I think that the devs could have pushed themselves a little harder as far as bringing some original stuff into the new game. They played it safe...
As for negatives: apart from the technical side of things mentioned above, I do not understand why you can't have main missions and side missions activated at the same time. You can either do a side quest or a main quest. In the previous DE game, you were able to tackle both at a time. The enemy AI can be quirky at times, sometimes bad guys get stuck in stairs or floors but it is not a big deal really. The overclock idea could have been more fleshed out. As you see, no deal breakers here.
I have not yet finished the game, I am three missions away from completing it and so far I have spent some 70 hrs. with it. Mind you, I am a professional treasure-hunter in this kind of games so I definitely take my time going through them. If you like games with a soul and personality where using your wit and good planning are key to your success you can't go wrong with DE:MD.
For me personally, this has been one of my best experiences I have had with a game since Dishonored and DE:HR. And that alone puts DE:MD very high on my top-games list.
90/100
Sidequests are all quite well done with some interesting mechanics in some of them, so they're worth pursuing.
The Breach minigame is an abomination that should never have existed - they wasted the developers time getting them to drop a mobile phone like minigame for the sole purpose of microtransactions, time that would have been better spent adding new locations in the game, and making the overall experience better.
If you like HR, I think you'll like this, waiting for the complete "Goty or Directors cut" edition when all content is bundled in one complete package probably wouldn't be a bad idea.
The first of the DLC packs comes out next week, from the description it doesn't sound like it adds much of anything, guess we'll soon see.
More of the same. Some things work better, some don't.
2.Is there enough mission/side quest content & exploration (Not like "DIVISION kinda same ♥♥♥♥ on every corner" exploration)
Again, more or less HR level, city traveling gets kinda annoying due to long load times. Sidequests are rather big, which is good.
3.Is storyline above average or does it totally ruin the game (This answer is important, if it is really "casts a shadow on gameplay" bad storyline please let me know without spoilers please.)
ATM - I did not finish the game yet, not even closely - it seems the story is just a kicker for the trilogy, but currently it makes much more sense then it did in HR, and if you are not after MASSIVE EVENTS EVERYWHERE BOOM BLAMO KABLAM!!!!1111 then it may work significantly better. Though, again, I am yet to finish the game.
4.Is game too easy? (I usually play games on hard settings or 1 point below hardest if it has 2 harder settings above normal)
ATM it is extremely easy for anyone who has proper stealth experience. Maybe shooty approach will be harder, but peaceful run is REALLY peaceful.
5.With %75 explored gameplay + main storyline can I achieve 20+ hours gameplay (I enjoy exploration, not like a snail kinda checkin every cm of the map but checking anything interesting or curious to open every locked door)
I have 17 hours now, and as far as I understand I'e don less then a half.
6.One small paragraph of your thoughts
It's fine, I think in most senses it's better then HR, though it has lots of technical issues, especially with optimisation. Overall enjoyable, but may be a bit redundant for the upcoming trilogy.
But it is short (Main story) and that they sell cut content as DLC isnt exacalty a good selling point.
But of you enjoy Deus Ex HR you should enjoy this one to.
1. Better than HR. Not a quantum leap, but overall, better
2. Side quests are excellent. Not quite Witcher 3 level, but close. Exploration is superb too - email & books similar to HR, but random conversations you overhear on the street are plentiful and provide great background. Great art design which makes exploring all the more fun.
3.The story is somewhat shorter than you might expect. Also not everything is wrapped up. Set your expectations going in.
4. Difficulty is similar to HR
5. Took me 45 hours, but I'm slower than average. You should be able to get 20+. I expect to do multiple play-throughs.
6. I loved this game - it put me in a fascinating world full of interesting people and stories.
However, story-wise be ready for something different. Previous DX games were big, sprawling stories across mulitple locations, that reached a big climax where you made a choice that changed the world. This is not like that. Approach the story as an episode of a serial. The immediate story line reaches cloture, but much is left unresolved.
maybe the shooting is a tiny bit better but that's it and you don't play this for shooting but to be stealthy anyway.
the Port is terrible, almost Batman AK level of terrible.
I would wait a few months if I were you before buying if you really want to try this.
just replay HR, you won't miss anything, in fact gameplay is the same but story here is weak and it just ends where it should start.
Not recommended.
