Hm, I am wonder why I don't get any screen tear with Vsync off but I don't lol
Using borderless doesn't already mean that Windows itself takes care of the refreshing, therefore you do not need V-Sync?
I don't know, if I use borderless my framerate exceeds my refreshrate so its far less smooth. Without triple buffer set on my fps fluctuates from 100 to 60. I'd rather have it match my refreshrate so I have a smooth 60 fps without hickups/stutters.
As I stated, the general consensus is that activating V-Sync while using any form of borderless window to play in is overkill since you can't experience any type of screen tearing.
You may be experiencing the fact that, since Windows is the one handling sending your monitor each frame the program comes up with, the actual refresh rate is reduced from 2-6fps depending on the situation; but even then, I get around 5fps more in DX:MD borderless so it's worth it in my case.
In Rise of the Tomb Raider, I get 12 more fps on average, while in the Witcher 3 I lose 1; so it depends on the game.
But I've never experienced any short of screen tearing when playing borderless.
the game with the right settins runs amazingly, but people with rigs that are more than capable of running it just can't...... the game is mighty powerful, but the game also has some serious frame rate issues no doubt.
Thanks for clearing that up. However, even if I don't experience any tearing, turning on vsync in game (triple buffer) makes my game much smoother (it locks to 60 fps). If I turn it off, I get around 90 fps (more than 60) but for some reason it just doesn't feel as smooth as with vsync enabled. Make no mistake borderless windowed is the way to go for me in this game yeah.
