emp ("electric") to shut them down, armour piercing or regular ammo to blow them up / kill them.

Shooting Drones with an emp round will disable them long enough to fire a few normal rounds with your pistol, which easily destroys them.

Guards with mech suits are easily taken down (from behind) after shooting them with an emp round.

Robots are much tougher to kill. An EMP mine followed by frag grenades are quite effective. It takes a lot of AP rounds and seems a waste of precious ammo, compared to a couple nades.

After you have already disabled them with EMP, don't bother shooting more EMP rounds, because EMP rounds don't do that much actual damage.

Besides AP rounds, the nanoblade augmentation is pretty good at taking out robots. The nanoblade (with upgrade) can take out a turret in one hit. With sentry bots, it takes a few hits.

That's good to know. In all my previous playthroughs, I've never used the nanoblade aug. I've recently started a new game with the intention of not using any external weapons at all. No guns, no nades, no mines etc. Using only augmented weapons like the nanoblade and tesla. So far, I haven't really needed either but, now that I know the nanoblade is effective against robots, I'll be looking forward to trying it out.

It's also possible to farm them for experience points through the 'piece by piece' reward.

The fully charged nanoblade (which requires the upgrade) does a ton of damage due to its blast radius. The only problem I have with the nanoblade is that the game doesn't let me use my mouse button to hold down the charge for some reason. For some reason, the charge can only be activated using the keyboard.

Robots seem to have strong front/back armor, but if you shoot them at a side of their "heads", it takes just about 5 AP rounds.
