Deus Ex Mankind Divided has DRM active on the GoG version of the game.
This reddit thread goes over all of it. https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/gc5ex6/deus_ex_mankind_divided_has_drm_on_gog/

The person who did the crack for the GoG version said the following: "This is a very interesting case. Square Enix/eidos gave GOG the unprotected binary but they left all the Steam stuff intact, probably because Square Enix didn't want to waste any of that sweet MTX money on dev work. So GOG had to add a platform bridge called Ghost to the game. It's a wrapper that translates the Steam calls and redirects them to GOG Galaxy so the DLC get unlocked. This brings us to the unique situation where a GOG game, for the first time ever, actually needs a crack, which is essentially just a normal Steam crack without custom platform bridges."

Why do you guys keep posting this GoG stuff here/Steam discussions?

I mean, if this GoG etc. platforms are so great, why not posting it there, why hanging out here? I don't go to GoG to post stuff about Steam releases.

The reason I put this post here is in case any fellow Steam users saw this game is available on GoG, and thought "Oh hey, I'll get the game there rather then at Steam", and then looked on the Steam forums before purchasing.

GoG is known for being DRM-free (it's their main selling point, quite literally), and seeing that this game isn't on the platform, even if the store-page says otherwise, is something that is worth sharing and spreading around.

I purchased it on GOG with the hopes of not having to deal with Denuvo, but this game has layers of DRM like an onion apparently. I did confirm that performance is somewhat improved on the GOG version and load times are virtually instant compared to the steam version. Thanks for letting us know my dude.

If you don't already own Human Revolution on Steam already, sure. If you do, just get MD Deluxe for $6. Being free of the super long loading screens is worth it for me lol.

How bad are the load times in comparison? I already own it on steam and was planning to replay it, but I remember having some performance issues on launch, so I'm wondering if buying it on GoG would be better than replaying it on steam since it's currently 85% off..

I haven't done any apples to apples comparisons so I couldn't tell you anything beyond my own impressions, but I remember waiting almost 2-4 minutes going in between different areas of Prague and this feels more like 30 seconds.

Are you sure you haven't changed/upgraded your PC, like added an SSD or something? Bc 30s is what loading times feel now with the Steam version on an SSD (or on HDD that's not about to die?).

I roll an older AMD FX CPU and while I have the OS on an SSD, the game is on an HDD. If you get 30sec loading times as is I doubt it's worth it unless you want them lower. I figure Denuvo must take more time on a lower single threaded CPU or something.

I only had 30ish secs loading on my Fx 8350, though I did have the game on an ssd too.

The SSD has to be what makes the difference then.

I just tested it. The game loads in 25 seconds with an SSD and an I7 8700K CPU. So 2 to 4 minutes was a you problem not a game issue. I doubt the GOG version is much different. Steam verification and then handing off to the game might add 1 second max. Steam is just there to verify ownership of the game. Thats all it does . Its not running in the background filtering your data or something. It does that then dissapears. WHy would Steam slow down loading of the game. Its a handshake. A steam game has it installed in its exe. The game says to Steam is this guy a valid user. Steam verifies. Then the game executes and Steam is gone. Why are you under the impression that having Steam adds substantial time to loading please elaborate.

If you're responding to my post, I already mentioned that the cause for the loading screen length on my steam version is due to being installed on an HDD, although I don't understand why it takes longer to load than the GOG version. More testing on my end would be necessary to iron it out and I'm not really willing to spend the time atm.
