Word and definition lists

I'd really like to make the definition list show the really weird words the game will accept, but the word list itself is encrypted so you can't see what words ARE accepted in order to try to expand the definition list yourself.

However, I have found someone who blogged about how to add words to the word list:

Basically, find the word list (in the Bookworm install directory in your steam folder), back it up, then add words to the list above the first entry [ aa ]. One word per line, no words longer then 12 letters or the game will crash when you try to make the word in game.

I'm going to experiment a bit with the definition list...I'll let you know if it works/link an expanded definition list.

Okay, adding words to the dictionary is as easy as opening the popdefs.txt file and adding words alphabetically and in the same format as the other words. Remember, always back up the original files before changing anything!

a very intersting idea; may I suggest that anyone who develops such a list could post it somewhere so others could benefit from it? I would only suggest that you do not include swears or offensive words in a list just posted here, so as not to offend others or underage participants.
Or, perhaps category lists, such as new tech words, medical terms, slang, science terms, entertainment names, places,etc.

I just tried to reinstall. The game won't install anymore. So good luck with the lists, I'm going to look at Walmart for a physical copy of the game.

well im pretty sure it should reïnstall. i suggest sending bug reports to the steam support about it and wait for their response, perhaps a solution can be found

posts elsewhere suggest support for this game is dead. There's enough clones and new word programs out there; I think I still have a copy of a CD based Bookworm on my old laptop. Bookworm was always my favorite.

I know it's been a looong time.,. Bur I was wondering.... do you mean continue on in the usual dictionary style of format, in order to add more words? I've been playing this game a fair bit and got a a high score of like 2.38 million, (I think it was level 38?)
Anyway, I hope I am not bothering you. It's a bit confusing the way they did the "Wordlist" and the "Popdefs". Either way I wish I could add more words, because some of the words should certainly be recognized!

I hadn't thought about this for awhile. I was mostly interested in adding definitions to the more esoteric words. I'm not certain about adding new words.
