Virtual Pool 4
This game is misleading and overpriced
First of all, $25 for a PC billiards game is ridiculous, and second of all even if you pay the $25, you don't get the full game - you only get a year of premium access. I noticed someone complained about the developers not mentioning this on the store page, so they finally added the bit about only getting a year of online play when you buy... at the very bottom of the description, where you have to click the show all button to read it. I'm really glad I didn't end up buying this - you can download the VP4 Online client from the developer's website and play for free, and only spend $10 to get a year of premium, so the "full" version is a complete ripoff in every way. I'm surprised Steam hasn't removed this game yet, to be honest.

I think this game is well worth the $25. I also happen to think $10 a year is well worth it for all what you get in terms of online play. If you only spend the $10 to get online premium access and not spend the $25 for the offline game, then you are missing tons of brilliant content like the hustler mode, pro tour mode, instructional videos and more. Plus you don't get all the AI opponents. The "offline" game is well worth the cash IMHO. I have already spent many hours of my time playing it.
Pool Nation is cheap if you don't have any self-respect.
Overpriced haha ? , The best pool / Snooker simulation there is and ever has been and $25 is overpriced ?. Have a word with yourself lad . . . People pay $60 for shi* like Fifa , Cod etc every year and your complaining about $25 and $10 a year. Seriously have a word with yourself. Go and play one of the pure shi* pool games for a fiver if you dont wanna pull out $25 for the best pool sim there is. Your not required in the community, dont worry.

Exactamundo.

The only reason I still don't play the original VP is because it only ran on Win '95. The trick vids and all the stuff that went into this game from the beginning, if you even know about it, makes many $60 titles look like a joke. VP4 is just a rehash of that original game with minimal graphical updates and it cost them very little effort to make it, but for the price it is worth it.

Best thing about the game.......................it was a PC original designed around the use of a mouse and not a console controller.

Kids these days wont learn mate it's not worth wasting our breath.
$25 for only a year? Bummer. Been a fan of Virtual pool since the first one. When I bought virutal pool hall. It is my go to pool game to play. Once virtual pool 3 came out. It wasn't as good. So revert back to Virtual pool hall because it has all the features I need. Fast forward now and was hoping this one was going to be the best version but if its just a subscription base than I'll just stick to virtual pool hall.
I don't mind about the yearly 10$ subscription for online support, and the game includes a 1 one year access to it. But the number of online players seem to be quite... low. Are those players only die hard fans and pros, or is there any chance to meet casual players online too?

There's generally like 20 people playing, a few are pretty good, but I'd say most of them are casual. I bought a year of gametime for VP Online for $10 - there's no point in getting VP4 as its just singleplayer and costs a lot more. I kinda regret it already since there's not many more rooms I can play in that I couldn't play in before. There's Snooker and bigger tables, which is nice, but the whole thing with buying cues is completely stupid - the cues are pretty much all the same and don't give you any real advantage over using the default house cue. I suggest just playing VP online, there's always people playing in the non-gratis room (Garage) and you can play 9 ball and 8 ball, which are the only games most people play anyway.

Mate thats wrong. Try using super low deflection shafts, the lowest deflection Snooker Cue, Jump Cue and the most powerful break Cue. It is worth buying and not stupid.

Sure pool has over 30 cues and shafts, breakers, jumpers. Snooker 3 crappy cues, 8mm cue totally unplayable. Not ONE pro players in RL uses tip below 9mm in snooker, no need to cause tables so fast nowadays.

Celeris doesn't really care about anything other than the pool part of the game.
Can't really say why, maybe that's all they know in the west coast.
I find this to be very arrogant towards paying customers. Like they're promoting pool and others can piss off. Well it's been a LONG time like this and despite fed up I don't expect any change anytime soon.

Ps. Shaun Murphy seems to be using a cue with 8.75 so there's 1, but there aren't (m)any more I guess.

- There are often rather more than 20 people playing

- Many of them are quite good or good (rather better than average)

- Offline VP4 is well worth getting as I outlined above

- The break cues give you a massive boost when breaking compared to the house cues; I agree the other paid playing cues are mostly cosmetic, *except* in offline mode, where they get you higher stakes vs AI opponents

- Many people play other games than 8-ball and 9-ball - I regularly see ppl playing snooker, English billiards, cowboy, straight, one pocket, 10-ball, carom billiards, black ball, and more

If you don't like the game, why come here and whine? Just don't play it. You've only lost $10 by the sounds of things. Many people here disagree with your views.
I've been playing VP 3 for as long as it's been out. I got it for a great deal. I've probably have played it off and on for 15 years. Well worth the money. VP 4 looks even better. Personally, I don't even care about the on line play. You get 1 year, which is good, and if you are serious about online after that time, then $10 is cheap for a year. I play EQ and pay $45 a month for 3 characters. But 2 really different types of games.

Anyone looking at buying VP 3 or 4. If you always wanted a real pool table, and one just won't fit in your house, then this is the game for you. I've play a thousands of hours of real pool, and just as much of VP 3. You really feel like you are playing real pool, it's really that well made, and the VP 4 looks to be even better.

This game has made me a better pool player in real life, and it's much cheaper then a real pool table, and you don't have to worry about someone scarring the felt.

What you are really doing, when you buy this, is your buying a pool table, that doesn't take up any physical space. It really is that good.
I do think they should make the online fee per year more pronounced. Its hidden behind a read me button and most wont click on that read me button. Seems very dishonest and shady.. I know that the first year is free but cmon developers make it clear that your charging for online play after the year is up. The way you have it hidden isnt very nice.
I just bought this today, although I got it on sale I feel that it's worth full price. It's as real as a computer can simulate the sport. Celeris still has VP3 for sale for those who want to pay less, of course it's quite old now but the download version still works even on my Windows 7 64.
Whats change after one year? I keep playing on-line?
