How does this compare to their previous games?
Been meaning to try out a Wadjet Eye Games title for a while now and noticed this one was released not too long ago. Is this their most polished/refined in terms of quality?

Story can be subjective, so it's not a deal breaker for me unless it's unanimously agreed to be bad or something.

Native widescreen resolution, I think. Still 2D, still pixel art-y.

More impressive in the graphics department probably are Technobabylon, Resonance and Shardlight.

Each place in Unavowed is more or less dominated by a single color. I like it when there is a red thread in a setting, but it makes stuff more... gloomy. The characters stand out less which fits the theme. They're unavowed, after all. I kinda got a real shock when I entered a certain place because there is so much color and so much more obvious detail.

Voice acting.... uh, I didn't notice a particular improvement because the actors all fit and deliver their lines.

Unavowed has less puzzles/riddles than the games before in my opinion. More talking. Usually, there is at least one important interaction in every scene - talking and/or items.

I am not the best person to ask for comparing quality. This is a quality game by any means, but if 2D pixels or games without a huge budget aren't for you, then you may find it underwhelming after all.

I don't really think it matters what game to choose quality-wise (just probably not the first Blackwell games, they are already beautiful, but WadjetEye visuals have developed greatly since then; I'd recommend to return to that series a bit later, it's totally worth playing. Also probably not A Golden Wake, I'm not the only one who thinks that it's a bit boring); they are all polished, voice acting and music are always superb, gameplay is always satisfying (and that's totally subjective, of course. But being an adventure games veteran with more than 20 years of gaming I think they really deliver as classic point-and-click adventures). And most of them are brilliantly written, but some of them are weaker in this department than others, of course (they are written by different authors).

Actually, I'd recommend to choose you first Wadjet Eye game based on what setting you prefer. After all, these games are all about story and atmosphere. I'd say, start with this one, Primordia, Gemini Rue or Technobabylon.

Blackwell is in the same universe. I'd check those out. There's probably full playthroughs on YouTube.

More so, three characters from the last Blackwell game appear in Unavowed.

Not only the first Blackwell games are less beautiful visually, but they also show the path of Gilbert's development as a writer. Basically, the first game is a bit simple story-wise (it was a love at first sight for me, but still), while the last one is almost on par with Unavowed. I just don't think it's the best place to start in 2018. And it's the same universe, not the same story: you won't get any spoilers for Blackwell series playing Unavowed.

Oh i would say it has a special level of quality above their other games. Its mainly about what they achieved with making an rpg-like lore setting and having you build a "party" to take with you into scenarios. There are many different dialogues between the two characters you take and the ways they react to the scenario you are on. Its a top notch immersion experience. There are many choices you make that have impact on the events of the story, and many many little touches that result in different dialogues. The puzzles are not the strong focus, though thats approximately the same with blackwell. I found the puzzles enjoyable with just enough interactivity to still be called puzzles... unlike a lot of other modern games.

Which characters were they? I haven't noticed any yet.

KayKay, Sam Durkin and police officer near burned building(in the first area you visit after joining Unavowed). Didn't know about last one until hearing developer's comments in that area. He got his barely visible scar duing last Blackwell game also.

KayKay is actually Kendra, ghost of a little girl Rosa Blackwell helps last in Blackwell Epiphany. KayKay is her username in that Trollgate game. You need to figure out how to login under her username at some point there.

Sam Durkin appeared in games The Shivah, Blackwell series, Unavowed.

While detective Durkin is obviously a familiar face, I didn't realise we've already seen KayKay.

Story can be subjective, so it's not a deal breaker for me unless it's unanimously agreed to be bad or something.

As a massive point and click fan who owns well over 90% of them on Steam, I have to say that this is by far the worst PNC game I have played since the beginning on Steam. Completely horrendous effort, avoid like the plague. You can find my review of this junk on the review section of the storepage.
However don't let that put you off the developer completely, This junk and Reasonance are both terrible. The rest are good games. The better ones Wadjet Eye never developed, tells you a fair bit about the team. Primordia is worth a look, but pass on this mess.

This pretty much. Except for Resonance, that game was acually great and isnt comparable to Unavowed at all.

Irrelevance always comes accompanied of childish exaggerations.
" by far the worst PNC game I have played since the beginning on Steam"
"avoid like the plague"

You played 0,5h and got p issed like a spoiled baby because of how the descriptions of things when you hover your mouse appear...BOOM "worst game ever".
