Solution To The Sketchy Controls
If you're like me, you may have given up on this game because of the terrible control scheme. Even though you can bindyour actions to whatever keys you want, this game somehow still manages to be awful.

The solution is to use a console controler. Bind your 4 "action" buttons to the spatially corresponding buttons on your controller (ie the top button to triangle, the bottom button to X on a PS3 controller), let your most comfortable trigger button act as your "run" (the most used button). Bind your second most comfortable trigger to one of the cycle buttons (no need to bind cycle back if you don't want to, there's never that many things to cycle through). Crouch can be bound anywhere as it's almost never used. Select or a trigger button can be inventory.

I imagine this is how the layout would be for the console port, and it actually works great. The ASDW catastrophe that crippled this game, and the frusteration with RE style camera cuts are simply gone when using a controller.

For BS fans, I *highly* recommend using a controller if you otherwise wouldn't finish this game, as this game ties in very very strongly with the first game.

I couldn't get this to work. It binds the controller for movement fine, but when I try to change the other keys the menu just instantly binds an unknown key without hitting any buttons on the controller. Any thoughts?

use a controller mapping software such as xpadder

Works fine with a 360 controller (even wireless ones), you just need to choose it as the default controls, then you have to replace keyboard controls with controllers buttons.

Note that it's an old game so like most of them, LT and RT doesn't work in it.

I did like this, personally :

Run = RB
Crouch = LB
Next Item = Back (Previous Item is not really useful)
Action (Up) = Y
Action (Down) = A
Action (Left) = X
Action (Right) = B
Pause = Right Analog Stick Button
Inventory = Start

Its not worth all the hassle, just wanted a simple point n click.

Then, you should better avoid Broken Sword 3.

Broken Sword 4 is also in 3D but works like an old point 'n click (you can do everything with the mouse from what I remember, like in Broken Sword 5).

It's pretty weird they changed the control methos in Broken Sword 3 as even consoles have mouse (first two Broken Sword on the first PlayStation are compatible with the mouse).
