Then, unset compatibility mode to its previous setting, launch the game again, that would be working quite well after.
Though there's no 16/9 compatibility.
This really helped me here in the future. now finally running in 1920p

In other words make sure the game isn't running at all, that there are no Broken Sword 3 background processes running. If in doubt reboot PC, then set the compatibility mode, then run the game. Any changes you make in game should now hold.
