[To Devs] Will we ever see Tyrian on Steam?
Tyrian was released after this game and sports some fine gameplay like this game. Will we see such a fine SHMUP such as Tyrian on Steam if enough support is gained? Tell them we want Tyrian, all you SHMUP fans!

Tyrian is a completely different developer.

You can get Tyrian 2000 for free http://www.gog.com/game/tyrian_2000.

It would appear Tyrian is available via DotEmu's own site.

Raptor and Tyrian were both made by Apogee Software thus I'm wondering if we could get some sort of Tyrian '2015 Edition' with Steamworks support such as cards, cloud and achievements as Raptor got.

Tyrian is currently freeware, so it's easily obtainable. However, I agree that it would be nice to get an updated version.

I know it's easily obtainable, it's just that I'd be nice to have it available on Steam like many other platforms such as GOG but with achievements and maybe Steam cloud support. I know I could simply add it to my library via add a non-Steam game, but it just isn't the same.

They weren't made by Apogee... published by Apogee but they had different devs.

Well technically DotEmu didn't really develop the game, they ported it to run with newer OS and resolutions, so couldn't they do the same with Tyrian?

They'd need permission from the devs, and the current IP holders and the publishers. Yes these can be three different people.

The game is freeware is it not? Then why can they not simply add it to Steam and add achievements as they wouldn't be gaining any money, then again they certainly aren't a non-profit organization. I suppose Tyrian will not see a day on Steam. Tis a pity.

Freeware means the game rights holders are allowing it to be distributed freely without cost. Adding in achievements and such would require modification of the product which is not covered under freeware license. So to modify the game to make use of the steam installer and interface would invariably require special consideration by the IP holder.

I see. Well, I'd assume that would be too much trouble/effort for DotEmu so I suppose, this thread can be locked.

It might not be... but there's also the question... why does it need to be on steam? It's freely available other places so anyone that wants it can get it and you can add it to the steam library manual

Tyrian and Raptor have no relation to each other. Raptor was developed by Cygnus (also made Galactix!) and published by Apogee, Tyrian was developed by Eclipse and published by Epic Megagames.

That said, I'd still love to have Tyrian on Steam.
