This is a strange bug, indeed. I've never heard of it or seen it. Do you have any more information about when this started/what part of the game you were playing? Can you still move and click your cursor/mouse?
My best guess is that maybe something is wrong with your steam cloud save (which would explain why uninstalling/reinstalling doesn't fix it). If so, here are the steps to delete the cloud save (I've simplified the steps found here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2470784
don't worry this won't delete your achievements):
1. Exit Steam
2. Open C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\62672969\335920
(62672969 should be your steam ID, which I found here: http://steamidfinder.com/)
(335920 is the Ephemerid steam app ID)
3. Delete the remotecache.vdf file
4. Open the remote folder and open the ephemerid dat file. Delete the text from that file and save it.
5. Start Steam and open Ephemerid. You should get a "Sync Conflict" prompt. Leave it open.
6. Go back to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<your steam id>\335920 and delete everything
7. Go back to the "Sync Conflict" prompt and click "Upload to the Steam Cloud"
8. Ephemerid should open automatically. Does it work now? If so, you can open the menu and press R+S twice to set all scenes as selectable.
I've followed your tutorial, and it looks like the problem was really the cloud save. I don't know what caused the problem, but your solution fixed it.
Just to leave all the information here, for the future, when I opened the game, before the fix, I could see the "blue ball" mouse icon and could move it, but couldn't click anywhere on the grey screen. I also can't indicate what caused the problem... Didn't noticed anything different the last time I've closed the game, before the problem started.
I noticed that I can't deactivate the steam cloud option for this game, and I'm not sure why. If that's a choice option from your side, and not Steam, maybe it would be nice to give this option. After this bug, I would prefer to turn off the automatic steam cloud save.
Anyway, thanks once more for the solution, and I'll change my review on the game as soon as I finished writing here. And apart from the problem, thanks for the game itself: it's an amazing muscal experience, so much that I bought the sountrack after playing it.
As far as cloud saving goes, I'm not sure if that's something I can turn off without removing that code. I thought it would be a nice thing to implement so that people could keep their progress even if they uninstall or install on a different machine. Hopefully this bug is a rare occurrence.
And thank you for the kind words about Ephemerid, it was a long and personal project. It's wonderful to see people enjoy it.
