Patrician III

A Little Help Here? Game Won't Run! > Fixed!
I've been all over the web for hours now and still can't get this game to work. I've tried adding the .exe files to my DEP, I've downloaded the GoG .reg file, I've hit the "reset" and "test all" buttons to no avail. Is there anything at all that I can do? I hate to have wasted my money on a broken game.

EDIT: Fixed! Finally got the registry edit to work. I haven't yet played it twice to see if the fix stuck.

Are you getting an error message?

I'm having the same problem Set Display Mode Failed... how do I fix this?

@Mango and Cappa I fixed it now, but I was getting error messages. The P3Setup.exe as it was named in the Steam file wouldn't work. The error called it the P2Setup.exe, but whatever. I added it to my DEP exemption. I finally got the GoG .reg file to work. I took the advice of one thread and went into Safe Mode and imported the registry file. Then it worked! I found a better thread after that that would have cut that effort in half, but whatever.

I'll put down my steps here just in case it might help ya, Cap.

~Download the registry fix from GoG at http://www.gog.com/support/patrician_3/The_resolution_800x600x16_could_not_be_initialised
~Go to "Start" and type in "regedit". When you see "regedit.exe" in your search right-click it and press to "Run as Admin".
~With that open go to "File" and then "Import" and then search for the file you just downloaded.
~With all that done, go back and try running the game now. Click "Test All" and it should run.

I will say that when I ran regedit.exe under Admin I had to search for the file through Computer>C://>Users>My Account Username> Desktop because under Admin it took me to the desktop of the Admin account which is totally different from mine. Other than that, that should work for you. Hope that helps!

@Inflatable Bunny Cool. Yeah I got the P2Setup.exe error as well but fixed it by texting the 600 x 800 16 bit resolution and somehow that fixed it. Anyway glad you got it to work.

Sounds too hard. I'll wait for a proper patch from steam.

Good luck with that one, bud. People have been complaining about this since the game came out four years ago.

I am trying to run this game on a Windows 8/8.1 computer and the patch made the opening cinematic work, but not the actual game. I still got the same "run the P2Setup.exe" even though I ran that and it said everything was ok.

Long story short, windows 8/8.1 do the patch and then run in compatibility for win XP SP2 and as an admin and it should work :)
Hey thanks drunk trebuchets (nice name) but im so over this fail it real not worth my time. Hey good luck getting it to run on 8 , mabybe send an email to the developer (link on main page) they just told me to update net framework. http://www.microsoft.com/de-de/download/details.aspx?id=40779 It didn't work of course, so im just going to let it be, meh

Yay! My pain was useful! JK, I'm glad the thread helped though it doesn't bode well that this is still an issue for people...
