About crew morale
Is it worth to keep them happy or is it more efficient to fire them and hire new ones?
I tend to let them rest but my cousin tended to fire and hire

I think the happiness is applied to the ship, you'll still have unhappy sailors if you fire and hire.

No, new crew has a happy face and depart instantly even after a mutiny

That's possible I guess. Can you still find a lot of sailors after you fire a bunch? You do get a reputation hit with them.

So that affects reputation....makes sense to let them rest then

I usually let them rest, but If I'm stuck repairing a ship for a week to dismiss them. It doesn't work in very early game stages because you can't replace them quickly enough, but a few months to a year in the game, and most of your regular taverns will have enough crew to fully man a hulk at least once.

Sometimes I'll fire the feckers if they go drinking my damn rum >.> (ingame booze) thaat peeves me off. but that's usually a morale related problem too <.<

Not the general reputation, but I remember having no sailors in the taverns after trying that.

They eat the fish on board don't they? If you're transporting fish a long way, the crew will eat some of it.

No, I actually thought this happened. I left port with three fish and got to the next port with only two but I could be wrong as there were several ships with fish.

Never seen crews consume anything other than beer and wine (drunk crews message).
