this save game appears to be damaged

randomly game crashed giving this error, only have one save file that overwrites itself. is there any fix to it, deep into the game and really dont want to restart... thanks

That does occasionally happen (usually while the game is writing the auto save). You have an auto save and a manual save. The auto save overs writes the previous auto save automatically. If you kept rewriting your current manual save over your previous manual save then you only have the 2 and the auto save is usually the damaged one. If the glitch happened because an auto save happened while you were over writing your previous manual save then both will be corrupt. (That has happened to me on a couple of occasions).

If you are playing multipayler and the network has a problem the game creates a save file named NETZWERK when it crashes. For me this has always been a non-corrupt file. The way to solve your problem is to rotate between 2 or more uniquely named manual saves (the game keeps the saves in order of save time from newest at the top to oldest at the bottom) so that you have a clean copy to fall back on if your current manual and auto saves corrupt at the same time. That way you only lose a single play session instead of all your progress.
