Patrician III

Laptop doesn't support 800x600. Am I screwed?
Well, I've tried a lot of the different solutions out there to get the game to work, but I only got to see the Ascaron and the game intro video. After that I get some display error message. I saw on discord that if your display doesn't support a 800x600 resolution then there's nothing you can do about it (a common problem on laptop users it seems). I'm asking if anyone got to work this game with a display that doesn't support 800x600.

Thanks!

There is a patch out there and a guide to make the game work in other resolutions. It helped me play in widescreen.

Thanks for responding. If you mean https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=382413909 I've already tried it. Thanks anyway.

Like I said, I tried lot of things, registry editing included, which took me past the intro videos. But after that it crashed. Saddly I already unistalled the game, out of frustation, and I can't remember the exact error message, but it said that something called something like "FooDisplayBar" couldn't initialize (just some function on some graphic dll I asume). Finally I gave up when following some instructions on a discord channel (posted on a recent post in this forum) I saw that if you are a lucky one to have a display that doesn't support a resolution of 800x600, then there's nothing you can do, you just can't play this game.

I've spent 5 hours (and a few more some months ago) trying different solutions, nothing did the trick.

The only thing I was able to do with my laptop was hook up a secondary screen, make it the primary, and run Patrician that way. The secondary screen has the available resolutions and doesn't require editing the game files, flip side is you need to have a spare monitor (which I did from my old tower pc.)

I have an external screen, this is very promising. Thank you for pointing it out. As soon as I can I'll try this!

I'll let the community know if it worked ;)

Well, I installed Patrician III again and now I'm on my external screen.

So far I was able to run P3Setup and passed all resolution tests'.

The game itself doesn't appear to work out of the box, neither throght steam or standalone exe.

Finally, it worked!

I used compatibility mode set on "Windows XP (SP3)" and "run as administrator".

Thank you all for the feedback!
