The Map Editor allows you to load a copy of the standard map called standard24. If you want to play around with this map. do a save as and create a copy. Then play around with the copy file.
You can delete the production that is in the cities and then there is an option to randomly distribute production. This will change all the production to the cities on the map if you are intrested in a new challenge with the existing city layout.
You can also change the city count from as low as 16 to a max of 40. You can have the program randomly place the cities or you can choose which cities you want. This way you can create a totally new look to the game and how it will play.
You can change the cities types also. I always wanted to play Malmo as a Hanse city. It seemed like this would be the easiest start city as it it is centrally located but the regular map has it as a Hanse manufacturing city so you could never start your career there.
The Map editor allows you to save the map as a map file and export to a game file that Patrician 3 can use.
To use a new map you go to the Single Game option from the starting menu and then click on the world map button and choose which map you want. Of course you will need to create more maps to be able to use them. The game only comes with the standard map.
Hoping this will give you a new appreciation of the flexibility of this game and how you can customize it further to extend it's playablity.
If you haven't discovered the the MAP EDITOR before and like or love this game, give it a whirl it will add a whole new dimension to the playability of the game. It truely gives the game a while new fresh feeling.
The Map Editor app can be found in the same directory as the Patrician 3 executable. Give it a try.
