Yes. You actually have to make a massive sacrifice. You kill off your highest ranking party member or you lower your stats and limit your combos.

I cut off my arm for Terry. For some reason all throughout my first play-through I had to sacrifice a lot of ♥♥♥♥ to save Terry. First it was all my loot, then my arm, and then about 1,500 mags in ransom money. But it was all worth it. Terry for life, holmes.

On my first playthrough I cut off my arm for... I believe it was Nern.

Second playthrough I cut it off for Terry, because I was trying to keep him alive. Unfortunately, he got killed by Spoony Sidewalk Vee, because I didn't know the bastard had a permakill attack and therefore didn't take proper precautions.
