Statue in the desert
So I was wandering around the Desert area, looking for the Dojo, when I found a dead end with a strange "crude" statue with the name Tia carved on it. I know about Lisa the First and to be honest, the statue resembles the golden statue from that game, a lot. Is this just a shout-out to the first game or is there anything important regarding this statue?

Well, that kinda sucks. Still, giving a name to a shout-out object is suspicious. I'm gonna say the name Tia is going to be more or less important in Buddy's Quest.

There was a guy in a secret area (passageway you need to drop to in order to reach the entrance) in the nearby desert town, who mentions missing his dead wife. If you have some fancy perfume, he'll also say it reminds him of her, and will ask to buy it from you. Considering what he said and the fact that there was fancy perfume by the statue, it's possible that statue may be a memorial to his wife (though it's far from definite, certainly).

Now that you mention it, I found that guy before I found the statue; I had like three fancy perfumes with me but he didn't notice them. After I found the statue and took the nearby fancy perfume, I went back to the secret area and after getting the karate scroll, the guy noticed the fancy perfume. Maybe you're right.

Ah, pretty interesting info. I never tried talking to him before examining the statue & nearby fancy perfume. If he doesn't notice it until afterwards as it seems to have been the case with you, that'd definitely make a link between the two seem a lot more likely.

For me, he always just notices the 2nd time you talk to him.
If I open his dialogue, buy a fancy perfume, and then talk to him again, he asks to pay for it. Then I use that money to buy more perfume. Its a vicious cycle
