Question about Ajeet

On my 3rd play through and when I went to acquire Ajeet this time he was giving me his lecture about me being on Joy and refusing to join. On my other two play throughs I don't remember this happening, so I went online and read that he gives this lecture only if you're currently "Joyed" and will only join you if you're not currently on Joy. I am doing a joyless run so I know Brad couldn't be Joyed, so I was confused. I tried restarting, resting, visiting him while in withdrawls and while having no status effects. Eventually I just force fed all my Joy to Buckets and then Ajeet happily joined.

My questions is: Is this working as intended, can he only be obtained if you have no Joy on your character or was something messed up? I don't remember this being the case the other two times I played... but I can't remember if I had Joy on me in those play throughs or not.

glitch, i had 11 un-used joy my first run and he joined me while i was withdrawn

Cool thanks, it did seem weird to me... Oh well I guess if anyone else runs into this problem just use up all your joy then he will join.
