I still really found it worth playing when I first came across it, though it was more due to the surreal/mysterious vibe making the exploration interesting, and the fact that it did a really good job of getting under my skin and thoroughly unnerving me. I'm one who plays a lot of horror games, so I found that aspect pretty impressive, especially since it wasn't just creepiness/scariness, but almost felt like I had been emotionally violated, which I never had a game do before (at least, not without also being outright crap, though that's a little different).
One thing I'll say is really well done even in Lisa The First is the sound design. Lisa The Painful is even better at it of course, but the usage of sound and music was really excellent in Lisa The First as well, which helped to really draw me in. I think that's a big part of why it actually gave me that sense of feeling really unclean and unnerved, and didn't just feel edgy or the like.
Incoming DLC is different, the OP is talking about the prequel to Lisa.
