combat tips for newbie?
I know that this game is brutal, but I feel like I need a better explanation of the combat mechanics. It seems like I have the option to use special abilities like a fireball from a menu, but then that's the only thing I do for that round of combat. Or I can input the button combo for it manually, along with other bonus attacks? Is that right?

And is there any way to get actual on screen button prompts for an Xbox 360 controller?

If someone goes to zero HP in combat, is he perma-dead, or is that only through story events?

I took Joy a few times because I was jonesing so hard for it that I thought I would lose the combat otherwise. So now I'm stuck getting a bad ending? Is it JUST the very ending that's different, or are there differences throughout the game?

Is Terry Hintz useful for anything? Other than being a terrible person, was it dumb to give him up to the bullies?

The Hintster is the bomb

There are differences in the game depending on your decision. That's the fun of it. Pick what you think is right. There's no best way to do it.

If someone goes to 0 hp, you can bring them back with perfume. Some strong enemies can permanently kill your allies though.

I would suggest killing Terry just for the dirty football helmet and the extra mags as the best choice. But it's really up to you. You're the one playing. Each choice has effects.

I'm always the guy preaching the power of Birdy but when you get him...hold on to him.

Thanks for the tips. So there's no way to see proper Xbox controller button prompts though?

Nope. RPG Maker isn't that adaptable, unfortunately.

Can you recommend a spoiler-free guide?

And how do I tell what equipment characters can wear other than trial and error?

Basically, there are a couple armor types (Bald, Hats, and Masks for helmets, and Bare Chest, Pads, Ponchos, and Shirts and Shawls for body armor), then there are a whole lot of weapon types (so not gonna list them all, but the categories are more obvious anyway).

Each character can equip only one weapon type and one head armor type. With body armor, it's a bit less clear-cut. There are a lot of party members who can only use one type, but some members who can use two types as well. Far as telling what thing is what type, I found it got a bit easier to tell once I realized what the different categories were. You can always look up an item's type on the Lisa wiki as well; probably the best place to do so without risking spoilers, since everything's in its own section.

Also with accessories, you may already know, but everyone can equip everything, so go wild with those!

I have a question about the combat. I'm playing with Brad and Terry. If I instruct them to seperately attack or block or throw a bottle they both do as instructed. But if I instruct Brad to attack and Terry to use some jerky, what happens is Brad uses the jerky and attacks while Terry does nothing. What's up with that? It seems broken.

You have to select the item you want to use and then select the person you want to use the item. I think it defaults to Brad after you pick the item.

Hmm, that's odd, never seen a glitch like that myself. Are you sure it wasn't just that Terry was using the jerky on Brad? Cause unlike attacks, there's no animation unique to each character with item use; the only indication of who used it is the text at the top of the screen (like with Terry, it'd say "Terry used Mystery Jerky!").

I kept Terry with me through about the whole game. After giving up everything time after time again, I decided that he had some sort of importance to the story. I decided that he was going to be by my side through the whole game, he was taken and killed while I was sleeping. Go with what you think would be best instead of looking up guides, I assure you that the game will mean a lot more to you if you don't always make the best decisions.
