Error opening OpenAL
Hey guys, I tried to start up both Joyful and Painful, I got an error, so I reinstalled and it's still not working. What's up?

Did you try rebooting your computer? OpenAL is an audio library, so something seems to prevent it from accessing your audio device.

Thanks, Dave, will do and post results.

Alright, sorry for the late reply.
I've rebooted my computer twice, and I am still able to open the game due to OpenAL.

That is odd, can you try removing OpenAL32.dll from within the mkxp folder? It's possible that this version for whatever reason is incompatible with your hardware. You may need to manually install OpenAL though if it's missing OpenAL after you've done that.

If you don't wanna mess with all of that and don't mind the more limited feature set, you can use the legacy version instead.

I will do that now, once again thank you.

I'm ahead of you on booting up Legacy though, It still doesnt work but I get a different sound-related error message preventing launch.

That is truly peculiar, and you do not encounter any audio related issues with any other games? Sounds like it might be a permissions related issue though.

Never have. It's strange to me because two days ago I played through half of Joyful, and now it just wont launch.

I moved OpenALdll from the audio folder, the game syncs in my steam library and doesnt launch, no LISA on the taskbar this time. Am I to delete OpenALdll and manually install or just try reinstallation again?

The best explanation I can come up with is that something you changed in your System Configuration or something you installed within the past two days caused your audio device to become inaccesible for some applications.

It must have been in something I downloaded, I guess. While its off-topic, people who include things in their downloads that shouldnt be there are terrible people.

I'll run my Adware cleaner, and start with that. Is it possible to run the game without the audio? I know the sound is very good and one of the larger components of the game, but my headset translates audio fine, so I could just play the OST's from the soundtrack when they need to be played. It sucks, but I don't know what else to do for now.

Thanks for the help, Dave. I've been asking around all over LISA- related forums and imageboards, and you are the only one kind enough to even reply. I owe you one.

I'm honestly not sure if anything will play ball if the audio library can't get a hold of your audio device, you can try installing OpenAL from the web and see if that helps but if you're having issues with the legacy version as well I'm having my doubts, since that one isn't using OpenAL as far as I'm aware.

You mean the OpenAL error started happening with the game after you tried playing back the soundtrack via Steam Music or some other media player?

If that's the case I'd recommend restarting your computer.

I found that the problem was that i didnt have my headphones plugged in and i guess the game cant run if you dont have your headphones plugged in
