-Joy mutants aren't zombies. They are living.
-Brad was more aware becuase he hadn't turned into a mutant until after defeating Rando. I'm still confused in Joyful about joy mutant Brad being a halluicination or not.
When people use Joy they lose their ability to think straight and they start chasing their heart's deepest desiers. Brad wanted to save Buddy with such power that he slaughtered everyone who came to his way and stopped listening to reason when Sticky and the others tried to stop him. Buddy in Joyful had also consumed Joy and so her hatred for Brad and pretty much every man in the world made her kill everyone in her way and made her want the place on top of the list so she could be in control of the entire human race, being the only source of life on Earth.
When a person dies they mutate into something that still chases that wish, but loses their humanity completely. Bo's brother is just there holding the music record that they both used to listen. Brad kept chasing Buddy because he confused her as Lisa. Et cetera. So in short, they're zombies that follow one goal forever and attack anything that comes to their reach.
Another example I can think of is the mutant in the "mutant gallery". He had killed someone and was now "happy", so I think it had reached its goal which was probably connected to hatred towards that man. We don't know what happens to the mutants after they reach their goal. Maybe they become docile and die away slowly because they lose their ability to move and hunt for themselves.
The joy mutants are simple in my opinion, they are like giant distructive babies that take they're rage out on others with no idea of consequence( I'd imagine that a body being twisted in such a wa would be in allot of pain.) Its also stated that they only care about they're inner most desires and that they're transformations reflect that,(idk why brads a slug). But in the end all brad wanted was to be with buddy so he wont attack her. idk im drunk
oh yea they are all are made to reaspond to a trupet.
Or whacky theory here, yando plays a note on his trumpet that puts them in passive mode.
Yado himself says in the painful in some dialog that people dont all react the same to joy, and his control so its not really easy to control them all
On the otherhand, many mutants seemed to be able to reach a state of contentment or happiness. Even in Lisa the Painful it's possible to find a mutant that is laying down in a tent and completely content. However, most seem to achieve this state of mind by killing to the point of burning themselves out.
