For me, I got tons of items in the last segment of the game, so losing my stuff wasn't too big of deal.
You keep all weapons/armor, equipped or not. anyway.
To make things a little easier, I sold all my stuff and bought every last piece of armor that I could afford... sneaky, but it works to have a bit of immediate cash after that scene.
I know this is going to sound contradictory, considering I deliberately came here and searched for this particular scenario, but I definitely agree with you, but to a bit of a lesser extent (it definitely does not kill the fun, nor make the game a lot less fun) though after the fact. I have made my decision already So, it was more of a "well, let's see if I just screwed up the whole game, before I save over a pre arm-losing point in the game." While most games that are made right don't stick you with an "Unwinnable by Design" situation, I have had it happen too many times in the past for me to be sure it won't again.
All of that being said, when it came time to decide, I sold absolutely every item I had, bought like 50 dandy hats, lost my items and went and sold all the dandy hats back. Only got 50% back on them, of course, and the loss of all the items, but better than losing 100% of your mags and 100% of your items.
On the other end, losing an arm isn't really that crippling if its the first one you're losing, so if that is the case, I usually see that as a better choice than losing all my items. Losing a second arm is a lot worse (since you lose combos completely, along with the ability to equip a weapon), though you're still far from screwed, Since Brad can still make himself useful, and your other 3 party members can often carry the weight more.
But yeah, Lisa's not really a game you need to worry about being screwed in, generally. Only way I could maybe see it would be losing all party members and having Brad missing both his arms, but even then, it may be possible to win with a bit of luck due to how strong Joy is. Either way, it'd be extremely tough to get in that situation without going out of your way to kill a lot of party members, and that's actually not too easy to do. I remember trying to kill off everyone through Russian Roulette once, and it was tedious enough that I gave up before I finished.
I mean, if we're talking about if he already ran thru the game and is looking for our advice and discuss it, that's all cool.
But if this is your first time and you want advice for ♥♥♥♥, no. Make your own decisions. And live with them.
And my two cents is that it comes down to a choice between Brad's arm and party members. Assuming you did the armor trick and he doesn't take your excess of hats, you'll still not be at full mags. And that's another thing I love about this game. The best way to make mags is Russian Roulette. You play Roulette, you keep that arm and lose only a random amount of party members. Your choice.
