LISA
Lisa vs. Undertale?
I've owned this for a few months now, haven't played it yet. But with all the buzz about Undertale lately, I think it's kind of funny that both these games seem to scratch similar itches, but Undertale's gotten much better publicity.

Whaddya think? Are there any good comparisons to draw between Lisa and Undertale?

I've only played LISA but from the things I've seen of Undertale it's much more lighthearted. LISA is blunt. It's forceful. It forces you to make hard decisions and while there's humor and funny ♥♥♥♥ going on it's got a heavy theme and it doesn't always leave you with warm fuzzies. Again, I haven't played undertale so I can't speak to any authority on it, but it appears gentler. LISA chews you up a bit. The game's opening shows the protagonist being beaten up, his father throwing a bottle at him and ignoring him for the television before the protagonist retires to his room to cry against the wall.

That's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ heavy. Some folks might not want to spend their free time having a heavy experience and would rather relax with something lighthearted, I'd wager. I just went and watched the trailer for undertale and the tagline at the end said "The friendly RPG where nobody has to die". I don't know if it's intentionally facetious but that seems pretty tame compared to domestic abuse and post-apocalyptic drug addiction to me.

Lisa isn't a game for everyone... There's some harsh themes in Lisa that some people wouldn't like or accept. But Undertale is different, even its "darker" moments are cute. I think that's why Undertale is way more popular.

In my opinion, I like Lisa better but both are great games!

People are a bunch of crybabys to accept the dark things that happens through LISA's story.
I'm kidding, I love Undertale but I prefer LISA.

If you have not even played Undertale do it dont judge or talk ♥♥♥♥ about the game before even playing it or you will regret it later on.

I didn't "talk ♥♥♥♥" about it. What part of my post was talking ♥♥♥♥ about it? Lighthearted and gentle things are also good. There is a place for both harsh, painful experiences and lighthearted happy experiences. Not everything is a competition. Just because I like black coffee doesn't mean I don't also like coffee with a splash of creamer once in a while. Relax.

Well, personally... the only reason I prefer Undertale is because I didn't have to find a workaround to get it to work. Also, the fanbase of Lisa is much more... unfriendly I guess, puts me off sometimes. I'll start getting back into Lisa only to get stuck, I would ask for help but this community would tend to give me a "git gud" discussion.

Since i haven't finished Lisa though... I can't truly say which one I prefer.

I've only progressed through Undertale a little over half way, but so far they really seem nothing alike. Other than having obvious Earthbound influences. Undertale seems to involve alot of puzzles, running jokes and much different ways of going about fighting enemies. The subject matter in Lisa is much bolder and seems to leave more a lasting impression with me. Undertale is good fun, but it never tries to be very daring.

Where are you stuck?

Well, I've recently played Undertale and finished Joyful a couple of minutes ago (which was disappointing to say the least) and I'd definitely recommend Undertale better. While LISA might have those mature themes and whatnot, as a game it's kind of lacking, while Undertale excels in all aspects (gameplay, story, MUSIC ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ MUSIC, sometimes graphics, some things that can't be told without spoiling, dialogue, and the HUMOR IT'S SO GOOD YES).
If you can, then buy both. I wouldn't recommend Joyful that much though, maybe watch it on YouTube.

lisa has game play consequences for story actions while undertale has story consequences for gameplay actions

Honestly, I don't think it's appropriate to compare these two games. While they both stem from RPGs their mechanics are substantially different. And of course, they're both fantastic games so why bother going out of your way to pit two great tastes against each other?
well i think they have stuff wroth of being compared

It makes me sad to see how unpopluar is Lisa compared to Undertale, but I find comfort knowing that if Toby Fox and Dingaling ever fought, Ding would kick his ass.

I have to say, after replaying both games, that in terms of story LISA is better in everyway. Has a better protagonist, villian and overall story.

I mean, sure we have some good and funny characters in Undertale but they only appear for a small portion of the game, the only times you meet Papyrus, Undyne and Alphys is in the area you meet them and the only times you interact with them is in their battles and the dates. The only character I got engaged to was Sans, because he's been following you through your journey to see if you were alright. I'll admit Sans is my favorite character in the game.

The only times we met Flowey are in the biggining and the end, that's pretty much it, sure he's an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at the end but only at the end. And what Toriel meant, when you betray her, saying "You are just like them."? Everyone in Undertale seems to be very nice except Flowey. That's another point, Undertale lacked tragedy, everything through the game is nice and happy from begging to end, the only one who suffered was Asriel but other than that everything is happy... That's why the Genocide route is my favorite part I like how all the characters in the game are reacting to your madness, even Sans who stays neutral through out the whole game descides to act. I think that even on the pacifist there should have been parts that you have to suffer a little.

And our main character, what do we know about him his personality comes from what we choose it to be so basically... we know nothing about him. We don't know his backstory, we don't know his ambitions, we don't know who he is related to, we just know that he is in that story. Is he suppost to resemble you with the name choice and such? No, because the game tells the name we choose is not the protagonist's but someone else that has nothing to do with the protagonist (blood and relation wise).

But even with all these details it's still a great story, but I think LISA does better because:
We get to know our main character and feel for him, we know every little detail about him and what he is going through.

The antagonist Buzzo, unlike Flowey, follows you through the whole game with a simple purpose and that is to screw your life. He's not just there to look pretty, he wants to pull your heart out through your ass and make you suffer through your whole journey by giving you choices that affect your game until the end. Every time you met him you know that something bad is going to happen, when you have an antagonist like that you know that is a good one.

The party members you meet have their own separate personalitys and abilitys, unfortunally you don't get to interact with them too much, but you will miss them because they are following you until the end, litteraly. You engage to them because of how they help you in battle, but when they die you miss them and that means you got engaged to them. If you ever save scumed because a character die it means you cared alot because you didn't want to see them go.

Yeah, the way I'm talking make it feel that LISA is the superior game when in fact is not I'm here to point the cons of game to explain the pros of another. I could talk of how some of the story of LISA is bland when comes to explain the Flash and more about Yado's plan and the Joy or why Olath even have warlords when no one of them does anything at all, or how Undertale has better visuals and some of the music are better... but hey!
Both games have great characters, storys and visuals. Both are great games but I think Undertale is a little Overated and that LISA should be given a chance.

wtf i'm doing here, I should be studying for my physics exam in four days
