Question about using Joy in Lisa the joyful

Does it affect the ending in anyway if you take it?

No, you can take Joy in Joyful, it won't affect anything.

And now imagine - there was no Mend in original version. Only bartender and Joy.

I didn't have a hard time using joy because during the entire game I was just waiting for that flash of red with the weird scream and for me to press ESC and see Buddy has joy withdrawl but it just never did.
And I played the Joyful a few days after the Painful so I still had my the combat fresh in my mind.
