It's an amazing RPG, some minor flaws but otherwise amazing, even 5 years since it's release. Typically there are sales for 50% off around winter and the summer, otherwise I don't know about any sales soon.

It's a really good game, but it isn't for everyone, as the story is very depressing and contains serious themes such as abuse and suicide.

Other than that though, the gameplay is some of the most fun I've had in an RPG, so it's really got that going for it.

It's one of those games that you simply must play. Stay away from the forums, YouTube, google...and go enjoy yourself without knowing anything about the story beforehand.
