Can't beat rando's army. End game spoilers.
so I'm at the end of the game, and I'm at the point where I just killed my own party. The fight after that, where I battle rando's army, I am unable to complete a turn. No matter what action I select, one of the enemies hits first and stuns me, and I can do nothing as they whittle down my health. What am I doing wrong?

At the beginning of each wave you need to use Flaming Head Slide. That's the only move Brad has that hits multiple opponents and it is capable of stunning them.

Also make sure you have Domestic Jerky or Rando Rations saved up before the army fight.

I can't use flaming head slide, they stun me before I can use it.

It's the first wave that's killing you, right? The same thing was happening to me. You need to have full health going into the first wave if you keep getting stunned, that way you don't die in one turn.

I do go into it with full health, and half the time they still kill me, and the other half of the time, they just stun me again the next turn. I don't even get the chance to use a healing item.

I don't know what else could be wrong then... what level is Brad at?

Im having the same problem. Im trying to do a joyless run but the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ withdrawls is gimping my health, Stunned then dead.

Alright i figured it out. You need to Drag out the fight with your party members until your joy withdrawl is gone. took me about 15 rounds but it will go away

I think it's around 30ish.

ALRIGHT I’M SETTLING THIS ONCE AND FOR ALL
So I’m going in at level 28, no armor but sunscreen and the dead flower. I played the party and first waves of the army fight 5 times to figure this out. I started each battle the same way, by using head slide. From there depending on how many people fell, I’d either throw fire bombs or heal or use head slide again in subsequent turns. My party was Ajeet, Queen, and Olan for all 5 rounds (so I got to deal with the stun threat twice because Queen can stun)

1st Run:
Full health going into first wave, beat them no problem, never got stunned.
On their first turn, two guys furthest to the right and left hit me (but didn’t stun)

2nd Run:
Party fight was rougher, going in with -200 health
Got hit twice again by furthest right and left guys, never get stunned
Took everyone down no problem

3rd Run:
Okay, my party killed me mid-way through the fight… I thought I was going to be okay if I didn’t heal, but I wasn’t. My party was Ajeet, Olan (was dead at that point), and Queen and it was Queen’s stun that got me… I couldn’t knock them down for 2 turns and that screwed me over. If I had healed though I think it would’ve worked out for me.

4th Run:
Going in with -500 health this time…
On the first wave, I WENT FIRST.
Killed them no problem, never got stunned.

5th Run:
IT’S LITERALLY CHANCE. This stun I got in the party fight lasted THREE TURNS when they were ALL ALIVE, and I lost 1,200 HEALTH.
Then I got stunned AGAIN after I healed and lost 500 health, and then I chucked a fire bomb and killed all three of them at the same time
Going into first wave with -500 health again
Aaaaaand I went first again
I think the chance thing also applies to the first wave of when you do your turn, because twice the two guys on the far sides went first, and twice I went first.

So in conclusion this study showed it’s literally just chance. Joy deprivation changes nothing. It makes you less likely to get crits and you hit with like 100 points lower damage on regular attacks but other than that it changes nothing.
I never got stunned by anyone in the first wave of the army in the 4 runs I got to the army, but when I was playing this game for the first time and had to do this series of fights 4 times (once I lost to my party and twice to the first wave), I don’t remember exactly but I think those two losses might’ve been because of stuns.
I didn’t change anything about my approach to my first turn, but depending on chance I either went first or didn’t in the first wave. So there’s no surefire way to win this fight, like being smart helps and healing when you think it’s necessary, but when it comes down to the first turn, it’s just chance.

It does change who goes first. I completed it 2 hours ago. With withdrawing and No arms 3 people on the first wave of people go ahead of you. Did you test this while brad was withdrawling and Not withdrawling? And you have more HP while not Craving Joy as well

You're party? Are we talking about the same fight here?

I think they mean fighting against the party. That confused me several times in this conversation.

I was trying to show the progression from the party fight to the first wave because depending on how long the party fight lasts, you either have Joy withdrawal going into the first wave or you don't

Also I think Gawfyguy is right about addiction changing who goes first. It wasn't clear when they made the first post that addiction changes who goes first (also I didn't pay close enough attention to when I had it and didn't, my bad). Well I just wasted my time but that's okay, doing the last battles again was kinda fun (and it was a great way to procrastinate on my senior project, yay)

Well, I tried it again yesterday, and you're right, it DOES seem to be just chance. I beat the fight with no problems.
I guess I just got really unlucky for my first few attempts.

Are you doing it on pain mode? I find the battles are rather easy, as I just spam head slide, which renders almost all of them immobile. After that, I finish off the last survivor with a fire blast. Then again, I hardly ever used joy, making the withdrawls easy to deal with.
