I mentioned it simply because it grants +Init.
?? What Thulun contact? Does the pirate become a contact? ...If so, I don't remember the name.
Hint, its a Prince or Prince's daughter.
I really do not like this resolution to the "Thulun" side of this storyline. I think it needs better explanation/resolution. As it stands currently in-game, when you accept the pirate's bribe for $100k, your original mission (and Cadar contact) disappears and the entire thing goes cold. There's no mention that years down the line you will eventually gain a new ship component, and there's apparently also no mention that a new contact inserted him or herself into my list of 100 Thulun contacts??
(Not even to mention that Elsa also abandoned me.)
Anyway, this "Thulun" resolution is really crappy, mate, and leaves the player wondering "What just happened?" :(
What just happened? You betrayed your contact on the first mission and ended the story. But you got an easy pay day and avoided a fight you might not have won.
Elsa warns you quiet clearly that she will leave.
I am not confused about the bribe or Elsa. I am still confused about what Thulun contact is possible to come out of this questline?
I mean I guess it's a moot question anyway, though. Nobody would ever pick the Thulun side to this mission anyway, due to Elsa leaving.
You can purposefully fail stories in the game, but I wouldn't recommend it. That doesn't mean the option and consequences shouldn't be there to create a richer experience.
1. One of the story design tenants is to give options. Maybe you are a non-ship combat captain, you have the option to take the $100K and ditch the fight instead of fail. Maybe you have other things going on and just want the quick money. Maybe you don't have Elsa!
1A. If you fail this early, you can learn the reality that Prince Yalto is riding on Kaytyn's good work and not an independent threat to finding the Spirit. If you fail this early, Thulun does not find the Spirit.
2. Another design tenant is to have consequences even in failure or if you ignore a story. If you get to the third mission and the Spirit has been found by Jon's people then any result of the story leads to technology being produced from the find. You can help Jon recapture the tech and Cadar can produce the 2 components OR you can fail/ignore/die/flee during the mission and Thulun has the tech and will create the Interlock 5. If you've reached Mission 3, there are always consequences.
2A. As to the Contact, if you help Jon recapture the tech then Prince Yalto Thulun is dead and his daughter Veya Thulun is added as a Known Contact who hates you. In 6 out of the 10 games I tried this branch in the final testing for story release, Veya sent a Legendary BH after my captain within 10 years. OR you can fail/ignore/die/flee and Prince Yalto Thulun is alive and he is added as a Known Contact who hates you. In 5/10 games I tried this branch in the final testing for story release, Yalto sent a Legendary BH after my captain within 10 years.
I also think it's disappointing that you don't have an option to side with Prince Yalto and gain him as a contact (in turning the tech over to Thulun). I think that's the option that I was looking for and couldn't find here.
It is mentioned in dialog that Veya will avenge him. Sorry you find the options disappointing. We'll keep working to improve.
