Star Traders: Frontiers

Star Traders: Frontiers

Can't launch game in mod mode after update.
I don't know if this is my fault or if there's more to it, but after the last update I tried launching the game to play mods. Avast caught the game and put it into quarantine while I wasn't paying attention. I added an exception, but the game keeps crashing in mod mode. Gets to a white screen just starts the menu soundtrack, then crashes out.

Regular game loads to the menu just fine. As I was getting less satisfied with Avast over time I just completely uninstalled it and the crashing issue remains.

I have reinstalled the game. I'm in Windows 10 and have checked Windows Defender to see if it's stopping the game. In Virus & Threat Protection I've added exceptions for the game folder and for the processes StarTradersFrontiers.exe and StarTradersFrontiersMods.exe. In App & Browser Control I've tried disabling Check Apps and Files in "Reputation-Based Protection". In the same page there's "Potentially unwanted app blocking" set to off and StarTradersFrontiers is not listed in the protection history.

After another round of reinstallation the game still crashes when launching in mod mode. I've been playing the hell out of this game lately and would love to resume, but I have no idea

Same for me, no AV except Windows Defender.
Windows 11 23H2 Build 22631.5189

Full error in event viewer:
Faulting application name: StarTradersFrontiersMods.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x680d82e1 Faulting module name: MSVCR110.dll, version: 11.0.51106.1, time stamp: 0x5098858e Exception code: 0xc0000409 Fault offset: 0x000a326c Faulting process id: 0x0xDD4 Faulting application start time: 0x0x1DBB822BDBD5346 Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Traders Frontiers\modversion\StarTradersFrontiersMods.exe Faulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\MSVCR110.dll Report Id: f60f81b8-e6ae-4f32-af92-9a37000353c5

Tried reinstalling the redist, reinstralling Star Traders, reinstalling and removing all mods/saved games, copying both x64 and x32 MSVCR110.dll to the modded bin folder, nothing helps.

Answer the post, we will work on fixing that!
Same here, when i launch the modded version i have a blank screen and after a few seconds the application close.
I have tried to launche the "StarTradersFrontiersMods.exe" in admin mode and i work but the launched version of the game is the normal one (no screen to load mod and i can't load previous saves)

Edit; I'm on Window 10

Same here. I uninstalled and reinstalled. Only the desktop Icon that only runs the base program without mods will work. Modded version even after re-install didn't work.

Are you having issues with the core game?

Can also confirm the bug. Windows 11 here, as the poster above said, when the mod version is launched from steam, it opens, starts to play the title screen song, closes and an error is logged to the event viewer as follows:

Faulting application name: StarTradersFrontiersMods.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x680d82e1
Faulting module name: MSVCR110.dll, version: 11.0.51106.1, time stamp: 0x5098858e
Exception code: 0xc0000409
Fault offset: 0x000a326c
Faulting process id: 0x2EF8
Faulting application start time: 0x1DBB8B2DED114B0
Faulting application path: D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Traders Frontiers\modversion\StarTradersFrontiersMods.exe
Faulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\MSVCR110.dll

As the above poster did, I also repaired the VS 2012 redistributable, uninstalled and reinstalled the redistributable, but no luck. Tried updating graphics card drivers as well, but no luck there either.

Ran the steam file integrity tools for the files and nothing came up there either.

I also removed all the mods that I had installed, and tried again with no luck either (thought it might have been a mod conflict with the update).

The normal version (without mods) opens and runs fine whether through Steam and via windows explorer. Running the mod version via windows explorer opens the regular version of the game with no issue, but I do not have access to my saves.

I was playing the game modded early Sunday morning, and after the update that was released the bug occurred.

Apologies, we will roll back the mod version tonight and keep working on a fix to go forward.

Ok - quick update - we have reverted the mod build to the previous version so that you all can play again for now. Sorry for the wait on that!

Are we waiting for this revert to drop/be approved by Steam? Still not working for me at the moment.

Try restarting Steam client or verifying game files.

I've verified, reinstalled, and restarted Steam. I see no indication that Steam is aware of an update and am still experiencing the crashing behavior.

That's highly unfortunate. I can not confirm here that I have the same experience.

Unfortunately that means that Steam changed something about running launch options and broke STF Mods. We will have to see what we can learn from them and then figure out a way forward.

For the foreseeable future, that means mods build will not run :(

I can sadly confirm, this is also the only proper version for me (because of unlocks), so I guess that’s that for the forseeable future :(

A common thing for other games is to have an older version as beta, any chance for that?
