Alternate stat weapons
I’ve only been playing a couple weeks, and this could 100% be me having a senior moment and failing a memory save.
Is there an automatic rifle called the Battle Rifle that uses quickness as its attack stat, but is usable with the skills for assault rifles, not sniper rifles?
In one of my early games, I swear I had two soldiers and an Exo. The exo was using a quickness sniper rifle, one of the soldiers was using a strength AR, and my other soldier had a better quickness than Strength, so I gave them a battle rifle, to use his best stat but still be able to AOE.
Now I can’t find that gun in game or in any online reference. I was an explorer that ran doing lots of card game stuff and crew combats. I suppose it could have been rare loot or from my weapons contact. Or, it could not exist at all and I’m just going crazy.
The problem in my current game is that I got a Shock Trooper with 30quick and 30wis. That weapon would be perfect, but I can’t find one.

Not in this game. There is no "Battle Rifle" in ST:F that uses Quickness.
Perhaps you're thinking of Fallout, Halo, or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III?

See this game's wiki for this game's list of high-end Salvage gear:

Their is a sniper rifle called the basic rifle, it available when you have no weapon locker (A0) see wiki at https://startraders.fandom.com/wiki/Weapons#Sniper_Rifles

Don't salvage weapons go up to lvl 14? The +6 weapon reward card doesn't even show up for several years.

It's clear the wiki hasn't been updated in some time (looks like the reward table hasn't been updated since 2020 according to hIstory). There could totally be a Battle Rifle, but rifles (and snubbers) are all Strength weapons (as far as I know only swords can be either Strength or Quickness, depending on the individual weapon).

Well that’s a shame, I guess I probably got confused by the scout rifle and didn’t realize it was a sniper rifle too, and battle rifle was just bad memory. That being said, stat swapped versions of weapons would make cool rare loot. The occasional old hunters rifle powered by wisdom or commissar’s pistol powered by charisma would be cool and give more options for oddball character selections.
If you don’t mind, while I have you on the subject of crew combat gear, while searching for my imaginary battle rifle I upgraded through the weapon lockers. Now I’m sitting at six, and the weapons being slower and the armor taking a bunch of init makes sense, but isn’t the best choice for some of my characters. Does taking two different weapon lockers expand your options? Like have a 6 to give you 5 and 6 tier stuff, and a 3 or 4 locker as well to give you options for characters with crappier unit rolls?
Just don’t bother with weapon lockers and buy all your armor and basic gear from contacts? Some combination? I’d imagine with looting and only being able to take in four guys at a time, endgame ships can do without lockers altogether and just equip from your inventory?
Is there any way to swap out gear while in the pre-combat character selection? I keep finding things that I wish I could do, that it turns out you can, it’s just hidden behind a couples layers of UI, looking at you system atlas…

I prefer all-Contact(/Vignette/Salvage) gear + 0 Weapons Locker components.

Also, I need the (S) slot for +1 defense module, like another DPM 4.
When you're frantically racing to get ship-fighting dice, +1 slot is a big deal.
