What if you double up?
Like 2 people in game, one called Kaylee and another called Frye
One called Jayne, and another called Cobb... etc
River... Tam
Doctor... Simon
The challenge definitely grinds against the standard intent of how to play the game. But, in the same way that you might try to beat a FPS with just the pistol or chainsaw =D
I tried a version where I choose no ground combat skills and it really didn't work if you got boarded or had to fight guards at a starport.
I decided that after the events of the "Serenity" movie and the big fight at the end and the implied civil war to come that the crew would learn some ground combat skills. After all Mal was a soldier before he was a smuggler and the very first episode they are scavenging a wreck so thats how I choose his 3 jobs.
Zoe I picked assassin based off the episode that had the flash back where she was teaching the young private about stealth and killing with a knife. As the exec on board the ship she makes since as the Quarter Master as well. keylee as engineer and mechanic makes sense too. after the big movie battle so does pistols. Simon as a Doctor then after the movie add combat medic. jayne as a soldier and gunner, etc.
Perhaps I've played too many RPG's.
Quick update I did die doing something stupid so I'm going again withe the same setup. This time I'm not running any of the story lines as I believe Mal would not get involved in high born politics.
If you enjoy playing that way and suffering from the consequences, good for you ! However you definitely don't need Permadeath for something to be a challenge...
It's all good Captain Narwol, everyone is different.
It depends on the game type. And what people are use too.
All the classic games usually had certain number of lives or limited continues and even in the arcade you were limited by how many quarters you had as a child.
Exactly whats the point if there is no challenge.
